The Australian Curriculum is futures oriented. The overarching objective is to equip students with 21st century skills and a quest for lifelong learning (Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority, 2012, pp. 4, 5, 28). The challenge for teachers working at the crossroads of these varying discourses in the classroom is to translate the curriculum in a manner that places each student at the centre of teaching and learning in a encouraging and intellectually challenging manner. This paper will compare and contrast these various discourses within the Middle Years (Years 7 – 9) and Senior Years (Years 10 – 12) contexts.…
But, this does not mean that they are not the same or that they cannot get along with each other. The way that I will address race in my classroom is by getting to know everyone very well. I would like everyone to share a little bit of their culture and share it with our class. In this way, students will feel more comfortable and safe inside the classroom. I also would like to keep them in mind that everyone is equal, even though some students do not share the same beliefs or traditions that they have.…
Throughout this course I have gained a tremendous amount of knowledge about what it takes to be an effective leader in Texas. This course has given me the insight into the Nine Principal Competencies and how it effects the education system. I truly believe that if all Nine Competencies are mastered that it will lead a school in a positive direction. In today’s education system, it requires an educational leader to be culturally competent and culturally attentive in order to be responsive to the unique differences of each student. TEA Principal Stand I; Competency 003 states: “Standard I: Learner-Center Values and Ethics of Leadership:…
It is an interesting time to be going into the education field all across America. As more and more immigrants make their way into the United States the population begins to become more and more diverse. This can also be seen in the classrooms; classrooms are becoming more diverse than ever. It is an educator’s role to be able to accommodate and understand these multiple cultures in the classroom. This will force educators to gain a more in depth look at the cultures that are making up the classroom environment.…
Introduction: As the United States of America becomes more culturally diverse in its population, the need to address that diversity within our schools is rapidly increasing. This increase in diversity is creating a challenge for educators across the nation because our nation’s teaching force remains predominately white (Caucasian)and English speaking in make-up and the number of culturally diverse teachers is in a state of decline (Gay, 2003). Educators must accept the fact that students who enter their schools/classrooms bring with them major differences concerning their cultural and ethnic background. While the original research was mainly focused on differences in culture regarding race, researchers are now paying closer attention to…
Kami E. Speir HEDX1101 Brownson 14 February 2016 Cultural Reflection Cultural competency among health educators can be defined as “requires that organizations have set values and principles, and demonstrate behaviors, attitudes, policies, and structures that enable them to work effective cross-culturally” (Goode).…
I have always been very sensitive to the feelings of others no matter what their circumstance or where they come from. Everyone wants to feel a part of their environment and to be respected for their unique gifts and talents. Each student has individual differences and experiences which can have a negative or positive effect on their learning experience. I believe that in a safe environment with an enthusiastic teacher who establishes relevance in the content to be mastered the student will be motivated to succeed. I respect each student and I have never had a student that did not have something positive to bring to the classroom and learning process.…
I want the minority to feel comfortable around his/her peers and me. I will make sure this happens by asking about the students cultural, being interested about it, and gaining my own background knowledge and sharing this information with the other students so they can better understand. I will also work hard to include all types of cultural into the lessons, for example, I will include lessons on holidays like Easter, Christmas, and Halloween but I will be sure to also include holidays like Hanukkah, Eidil Fitri (a Muslim holiday), Waicak (a Buddhist holiday) or whatever holidays will be relevant to the minorities…
So how would these students learn that their cultures and the other ones around them are different but that doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with that? How would they deal with being treated…
A time when I had to work with a diverse group was for a project in which we all had to discuss values and morals, represented by personal beliefs and knowledge. A major factor was that, since my school is international, there were many cultures represented in my group. Students from Russia, Sweden, Cuba, Jamaica, China, Philippines, Mexico, and India were all in my group. As very diverse people, we all believe in different aspects of life, whether it was religion or discipline. Through good communication skills, open mindedness, and leadership the team was able to put together a presentation describing our unity when it comes to values and morals.…

The effects on teachers and teaching would be that a different culture or raced teacher might teach this different than another teacher, but it shouldn’t bother the students depending on the culture. As a community as a whole Larnels dad and a couple of his friends found the cat and returned it to the owner. So as we view cultures some people come together to help people out because that is the respectful thing to do no matter what culture background they have. Conclusion…
To be conscious of race and culture within an educational environment means that as teachers we need to get to know our students fully and know that race and culture should affect the instructional decisions we make on a daily basis in the classroom. We should promote cultural awareness within the classroom by showing interest in our students' ethnic backgrounds. Our classroom and school environment should be inclusive of all backgrounds. When teaching we need to pull examples from our students' lives because odds are our experiences don't match up. I think as teachers we need to have an understanding of our own identity and be honest and open with our students to build strong relationships.…
ECE313: Collaboration with Parents & Community Instructor: Christine Tranetzki What thoughts do you have about teaching in diverse classrooms? I think educating people's mine on diversity in the classroom leads to better awareness, it eliminates racism, helps fights against biasses, and make people face their prejudice.
