Mulan History Essay

In 1998 Disney reconstructed the historical legend of Mulan. While Disney was accurate in many ways they had some dates that did not match up. Disney’s Mulan was not accurate in the way it presented Mulan she is claimed to have been part of the Northern and Southern dynasties, but the Emperor in the movie referred to China like it is more modern day China (being all united). “Ying Zheng unified China in 221BC – 206BC for doing this action to China he retitled himself Qin Shi Huang.” (Ying Zheng, 2017). Disney was incorrect in the way it showed China being unified. Another mistake Disney made was setting Mulan from 386 to 534BC in this time China was unified where Disney made it so they (China) was not unified at the beginning however China did become amalgamated at the end of the movie. Due to the poetic lay out of the ballad there was no information that showed this however historical research shows that they were united making Disney wrong. One of these accuracies are the match maker scene. In this scene Mulan goes to the match maker. The history of match making goes back 2000 years (Globalist, 2017), making it plausible that she could have gone to see the match maker. The match maker scene was not included in the ballad. In the Disney film Mulan had inaccuracies that include Mulan not getting punished for disobeying her parents. Early in the morning Mulan seals her father armor (in the movie) the punishment for robbery was death however this never happened.
