When she speaks out against the person giving out the army notices, the king’s second in command tells her father how much of a disgrace her actions brought about. Mulan doesn’t care about the consequences because to her, her father’s health holds high importance to her. In turn, this event inspires her to lead onto the next stage of her heroic journey. The next stage, separation, illustrates when the hero leaves the home or familiar place to go to the place the call leads them. Mulan‘s separation occurs when she leaves her home with her father’s equipment and her horse to attend the first meeting the army will have. Her determination led her to sneak off into the night to do something that she knows that could possibly have her killed if she goes through with it.
