Muhammad Ali won five Guinness World Records. He was born in Louisville, Kentucky on January 17, 1942 (Hauser 1). When Ali was 12, he met a policeman who introduced him to boxing (Gardner 1). Ali is considered to be the god of boxing because he won the heavyweight championship three separate times, won the Olympics at age eighteen, and made many humanitarian efforts. Muhammad Ali won the heavyweight championship three separate times (Hauser 1). This is a Guinness World Record that nobody has ever accomplished. He trained by running six miles and spending three hours a day in the gym six days a week. Ali also had a great mind when fighting. He won fights by studying his opponents. He fought 108 amateur fights before he went to the Olympics and did not lose many. Ali was still in school while training and fighting. His dedication, mindset, and perseverance were so important in going to the 1960 Olympics and winning the gold medal. Muhammad made many humanitarian efforts during his lifetime. In his early years, he focused the majority of his support, against the war and promoting his religion of Islam. Ali became very active in civil rights and social justice. He was awarded the Liberty Medal for his pursuit of freedom. Another contribution was his large donation to the Negro College Fund. One of his greatest honors was being designated the UN Messenger of Peace in 1998 (Mullen 12). Muhammad Ali was much more than a boxer, he was a giver, supporter, and helper. Muhammad Ali had a rival, Joe Louis. Joe Louis has a better boxing record than Ali. In Encyclopaedia Britannica it said that he defended his title more times than Ali did. Muhammad Ali was a better boxer because he had more Guinness World Records. Ali also did a lot to help people. Overall, Muhammad Ali was more of a GOAT than Joe
