Muhammad Ali is an American hero. Muhammad’s original name was Cassius Clay Jr. He was born on January 17, 1942 in Louisville. Kentucky. He now lives in Scottsdale, Arizona. Muhammad was known as one of the greatest athletes n boxing. As a teenager he won both the National Amateur Athletic Union and Golden Gloves Championships. At eighteen years old, he competed in the 1960 Olympics in Rome, Italy and won the gold medal. In 1984, Muhammad was diagnosed with Parkinson center in Phoenix, Arizona. Also supports special Olympics and Make A wish Foundation. Muhammad’s parents were Cassius Marcellus Clay Sr. and Odessa Grady Clay. He was the first of two sons. His father was a sign painter and his mother was a cleaning lady (“Muhammad Ali Biography”). Muhammad Ali may be best known for his boxing titles, but it is his trying to free American hostages, establishing the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center, and standing up for his beliefs that make him a modern day hero.

It was probably caused by severe head trauma suffered during boxing. His skills have slowly stopped. His speech and movement also became limited (“Muhammad Ali”). Muhammad’s disease is now at an advanced stage. But he continues to help people with the same condition and helps raise money for them. He is very passionate about raising the money for people who also have Parkinson’s disease (“Muhammad Ali Is Not Giving Up the Fight”). The Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center started in November 2005. Muhammad and his wife, Lonnie, opened the center in Louisville, Kentucky. It is a center for education and a museum experience. It also inspires children and adults to be the best they can be, helps personal growth, integrity, and respect for others.
