Short Story Compare and Contrast Essay
In the three short stories “Muffin”, “What’s inside, and “Fortune cookie” each teen faces their own problems. Their problems are all different but the Character traits and overarching theme are surprisingly similar in many ways. In “Muffin”, a young girl suffers from bullying and tries to stand up for herself. In “What's Inside” a boy tries to stop his cousin from committing suicide and in “Fortune cookie” Parker, who suffers from a broken family, wants to do whatever it will take to solve that. They are forced to act in certain ways that appear in the three stories. All characters unconsciously display bravery different ways. Daisy kicked Fat Alice in the story which displayed bravery because when you are being bullied you typically don’t fight back because you are scared. Daisy couldn't take what was happening anymore so she tried to take action but it did not help a lot. In “Fortune Cookie” Parker asks two divorced people to go to dinner together. Usually, when people get divorced they don't like each other at all but, Parker asked his divorced parents to go have dinner with him as one family. This displays bravery because a normal person would never ask two divorced people to sit together, eat, and interact. On the other hand, the narrator in “What's Inside” took the gun out of the box and put it in his pocket which showed bravery because not only did he stop himself from being the reason of Danny's death but, he also took a huge risk because if Danny was not really closing his eyes and was watching him they would both be in big trouble. Each of the characters is unique in many ways but, they all have similar traits. All stories share their themes which should make it clear to a lot of people that the three stories are focused on issues that everyone suffers from especially kids from their age. The three stories are focused on social issues. They target them and show how many kids might deal with them. Although their actions might sometimes seem immature, their actions are what helped them get out of their tough situations. A lot of stories nowadays focus on these issues because in extreme cases people can commit suicide or do things even worse. A lot of books people are reading recently are touching on these same points. Broken families, bullying, and depression are all things people suffer from today. As a prediction, the authors wrote these books in hope to make more children aware that standing up for each other and helping is a very important skill in
