Before becoming the coach for the Raiders, Jessie Hester became a first round pick for the L.A. Raiders in 1985. Hester is really good while not under pressure “But when the game was on the line and passing yardage crucial, Hester’s supple hands quickly turn into stone,” when Jessie was under pressure he could not catch the ball (145). Jessie was soon out of the league with having a tendency to drop the ball causing him to go home to Belle Glade. Wanting to come back into the NFL, Hester returned to Atlanta and spent weeks in heavy training. Jessie went into training “ In his short time in Atlanta, he’d worked with receivers coach named Jimmy Raye, who’d introduced a more fundamental approach,” allowing him to get back in the NFL with the Colts (150). With all of his hard work to get back in the NFL he “caught passes in sixty-two consecutive games, a franchise record,” Jessie came from dropping passes to not being able to stop catching the ball (152). Jessie Hester dropped passes in tight situations of a game but after hard work and training he went from dropping passes to breaking a franchise record because of his hard work.
