Esl 110 Week 1 Reflection

Prior to taking ENL 110, I was concerned if I would be able to handle a college writing course. Growing up in the inner-city it was difficult to learn the basic foundations of writing such as grammar and punctuation. As an avid reader, I have had only my ears to rely on to make the appropriate corrections and build sentences. I stepped into the course afraid to write papers, but I was hungry to learn my weaknesses and strengths. This portfolio is a reflection of the progress I have made since I started this course to the brutal end. The portfolio is compromised chronologically from my first work to my last work this semester in ENL 110. The course concentrated on the topic of food. All the essays are about food but have different takes on the broad subject. The first two essays are more informal to ease into the course. However, the papers shift to ultimately lead to my final argument paper. The genre analysis is where my argument paper began to take form. My argument topic started out focusing on animal cruelty however when I began forming my annotated bibliography I had found other interesting topics. It incorporated all the skills and techniques I had picked up throughout the course to create a final product. Five drafts and 3 outlines were what it took to write a 10-page paper. By the end of it all, I was no longer afraid of writing instead I was proud that I was finally able to put my thoughts into words. After taking an environmental science, environmental ethics, biology, and this ENL 110 course I felt confident that I could write a paper that included all the knowledge I had acquired.
