Hypothesis:
The impact of active volcanoes overlooking settlements pose as huge threats. With eruptions of volcanoes comes mud, ash and rocks leading to settlements being buried under the debris. Volcanoes also lead to lava flows and ash-and-gas explosions which damage and destroy many settlements/towns around the volcano. In worst case scenarios, eruptions of volcanoes lead to death of people and wildlife. Therefore we can deduct that a volcano is a geographical problem in society due to its impact on areas.
Location:
Mount Vesuvius is situated in mainland Europe. Mount Vesuvius is located on the west coast of Italy and it overlooks the City of Naples and it’s Bay. The coordinates of Mount Vesuvius are: 40°49′ N 14°26′ E

Mount Vesuvius is said to have erupted over 50 times throughout its whole existence. Mount Vesuvius is the only volcano situated on the European mainland that has erupted within the last 100 years and therefore is listed as one of the most hazardous volcanoes in the world. It is a dangerous threat to the three million and more people living in the surrounding areas. The volcano began growing in the caldera of Mount Somma but is now known as Mount Vesuvius due to its cone shape. Most of the rocks that re erupted from Mount Vesuvius are an intermediate volcanic rock known as andesite. Andesite is composed of about 53% - 63% silica. Mount Vesuvius is an unpredictable volcano which is highly dangerous. This is due to the andesite lava which on a variety of scales, creates explosive eruptions.
