Obtaining my license, will provide me with the fundamental tools needed to become an effective therapist for victims and perpetrators of domestic traumas. With my license, my long-term career goal is to start a private practice, with the hope that through counseling, I can help clients help themselves. With my certificates in integrated healthcare and gerontology, I wish to start my career in public health agencies. Perhaps, as an advance service coordinator or a hospice. Before making inquiries about private practice or obtaining a therapist position, my hope is to work closely with clients in their communities, conduct home visits, link them to resources, …show more content…
Two of my greatest strengths that I have recognized would have to be my ability to patient and exhibit empathy. At such a young age, my innate characteristics of patience and empathy allowed me to mentor and support my aunt when she was most vulnerable. My ability to be empathetic will contribute authenticity to my professional communication style, and strengthen interpersonal relationships. With such a trait, as I develop an enhanced understanding of what it means to be a clinical social worker, I will easily connect with future clients, peers, colleagues and professors, remain positive throughout ethical dilemmas, and effortlessly collaborate with others and vision every client as myself in a different skin. On the other hand, my ability to be patient will allow me to work to develop a comprehensive skill of cultural competence. I am firm believer that cultural competence is a foundation to enriching my career, a building block of sorts. With patience, I will precisely select interventions or treatments that focus on each client’s situation. I can envision myself enthusiastically seeking resources that align with clients’ system, or researching methods to effectively recognize, understand and

This common goal is to give the best and most accurate service to the patient at the clinic, the same goal was shared during my time at FSA. These teamwork experiences have also taught me to provide, accept and use feedback from the members of my group, and to always adapt, improve and develop new skills. Through these three activities, I was able to reinforce my reliability and resilience. By volunteering at a hospital and clinic, I was able to meet different types of patients with very different backgrounds and cultures, which allowed me to reinforce my cultural competence,…

While individuals interested in social work may say that their career goals stem from the fact that they would like to “help people”, I understand that social workers cannot change people’s lives, but people can change their own life. And social workers often have the keys and the ability to teach an individual how.
