The intent and purpose of this paper is to inform and educate the reader about Master Sergeant (MSG) Raul Perez "Roy" Benavidez (August 5, 1935-November 29, 1998). In doing so, the work will show MSG Benavidez as a leader who ignited admiration and respect through his direct actions in combat and garrison. This paper will demonstrate how MSG Benavidez proved himself as a living representative of leadership attributes through specific actions. The essay will show how MSG Benavidez's actions clearly reflect every leadership attribute and Army value.
MSG Benavidez was a leader of legacy who emulated all of the leadership attributes and Army values to its fullest potential. The leadership requirements model includes character, presence, intellect, leads, develops, and achieves. The Army values consist of honor, selfless service, personal courage, duty, integrity, respect, and loyalty. Every attribute and value is exuded through MSG Benavidez's actions, each divided specifically to isolate a specific trait. This paper will outline every attribute and value; demonstrating how MSG Benavidez imprinted a profound legacy as a leader in the Army and society on the whole.

I was personally very inspired by his ability to use his will to achieve amazing results. During the Vietnam War, he was wounded terribly. The doctors told him he would never walk again. MSG Benavidez placed his back against the wall in his hospital room for six months, fighting through his pain to stand up and walk.
