Ms. Matheson's Robotics Video Analysis

Decent Essays
In this video, we are taken into Ms. Matheson’s robotics class. She starts off with demonstrating what is needed for the presentation and to communicate it effectively. Proper communication is imperative when dealing with any project or life period. I know that for teachers it is very important they are able to properly communicate. Being a Physical Education, I can’t explain how it is important it is to get students to communicate properly. We would need this to effective discuss health topics and during physical times on fields and courts. What I observed in my opinion was some great work of student engagement. The class basically ran itself from the time Ms. Matheson handed it over to them. Students were engaged in their own work. They

Kurt Vonnegut once articulated, “True terror is to wake up one morning and discover that your high school class is running the country. " I looked around and thought if my classmates are the future leaders of all hope is lost. I whole heartily agree with aforementioned quote. Inspired by Kurt Vonnegut’s perspective, I ventured into the profession of teaching and I put forth my quasi-hippie ideals to transform the world. Reflecting on the past few years, I concur that I proud to declare I a small part in improving.…

Reflection Paper One of the most meaningful things about Motor Learning class is recording the videos with the group that the professor assigned the first day of class. Working as a group helps me to understand the material ten times better, and makes it easier to go through the whole process of the videos like knowing the right way of editing and recording. Being able to work with different people helps me to improve the way I take my notes in class and how to write down the most important things from the power points. Before every video, most of the time my team gets together to share our knowledge and create a better way of how to become creative with the videos, and make it easy for the audience to understand the material and skills.…

As you can see in both of the video clips I have students sitting in small groups with there peers who have similar Lexile and readiness levels. I have students working in partners and/or groups pretty much every day in this class, so this seating arrangement makes the transition into group work easier, and makes differentiating much easier also. I call all of the students by names their first names, or either mam or sir whenever I am speaking to them. I do not require students respond to my questions by saying yes sir, as long as their responses are not disrespectful, but I have noticed that once students notice I refer to them in this way they start to refer to me as sir without me even directing or asking them too. In video clip 1,…

Throughout the quarter there have been many things I have learned from this class about how to incorporate more speaking and listening activities into my future classroom and how to teach my students these valuable communication skills. The ideas that have most stuck with me are the importance of creating a classroom environment at the beginning of the year which lends itself to discourse; the three types of classroom discourse and their different purposes; and how to choose a task or activity which encourages collaboration and equal participation in small groups. During our very first class, we worked together as a class to create a list of norms and expectations we all wanted to follow during class, and we refined that list during the second…

Beginning this class, I was not sure what to expect because I did not really know what community health was. I signed up for the class to fulfill the requirement for my minor. Throughout this class, I have learned so much about the aspects of the community health, agencies, drug abuse, health rates, and disease types and control. These were all topics that were greatly interesting to me and I feel like the class improved my understanding of the way in which many communities operate. It also taught me the correct meaning of many terms that I thought I knew what they meant, but I had heard them used incorrectly so often that I associated the wrong meaning with the word.…

After observing the teacher in the classroom I’ve seen first-hand just a few of the challenges that teachers face in just trying to engage their students in learning or discussions. Not only is there a difference among students so that one approach works for this student and that same approach may not work for another student, but that difference is also seen in classrooms. I saw the teacher use the same approach to get a class discussion started in two classes. The first class responded to the topic and had time after the discussion to start on their next project. Yet, the second class remained relatively silent, they didn’t respond to any of the questions and the teacher could only spend so much time on getting the class to talk before having to move on so they could start on their projects.…

On October 24, I taught a math lesson about subtracting using the traditional algorithm, to Mrs. Beach’s fourth grade class. When teaching the lesson, I felt very nervous because I did not think that I was teaching the material in the most comprehensive manner. After reflecting on why I felt this way, I think it was because I combined the modeling/direct instruction with the guided practice. I did not mean to do this on purpose, but I think it happened because I was worried about teaching everything in the 55 minutes that I had. I could tell that teaching my lesson in this way was confusing for some students because they asked many questions about subtracting during the Bingo game.…
