Ms. Brown's Case Study

Ms. Brown’s biggest concern during her intake was she would not be able to use marijuana despite her having a medical marijuana card. Salvation has no tolerance for any substance use and/or the client would have to exit the program. After the intake was completed, Ms. Brown agreed to meet with this intern to discuss her concerns and options would be available to her to address her pain management, which was held and recorded on 02/14/2017.

It was beneficial that I had completed the intake with this client as I had already began rapport building and getting to know this client. What I would do differently is incorporate the CBT module and allow her to provide different examples of if she was to quit marijuana vs. continued use of marijuana. This would allow the client to process their own consequences based off their actions/behaviors.
Strengths and Weakness In working with Ms. Brown I was able to identify that I had patience with her given her low, soft, slow tone of voice throughout the assessment. I also was able to put aside my personal opinion in regards to what should be important is her kids and shelter and not the marijuana use. I was able to incorporate different ways to address her pain by the referrals she had and trying to encourage her to use those services. My weakness what providing her with different scenarios of this case. I think using a CBT activity or incorporating would have been more successful in her understanding the outcome.

The great thing about this client was that I had a rapport with her prior to the termination and I was able to be honest with her and give her facts. Issues that I have with Ms. Amorino is that she is a single mother, she has experienced domestic violence and has no support systems. It was very difficult to listen to her lack of resources and her life experience overall. I was able to handle the situation appropriately by listening to her and ensuring her that I was there to provide her with the resources and supports needed. It was explained as an intern I was able to make additional time outside the regular business hours to review and/or provide any concerns she may have. I feel that I may have lacked some competence because I never have been in a domestic violence relationship. I feel that this was a challenge for me to accept her decision to leave and return to him. Being able to be honest and providing her with a safe and appropriate safety plans as well as additional resources were huge factors that were considered. I was able to fully understand that I cannot work harder than a client and completed my responsibilities in providing her with the facts, resources and support needed. I do not think I would have done anything differently in regards to this session as this was out of my
