Brotherhood and Childhood “Because brothers don’t let each other wander in the dark alone” - Jolene Perry a well known author. Perry explains that brothers should not turn there back at each other and that brothers should always stick close together even at hard times because that’s what brothers are for. This quote is inferring that brothers should not be independant towards each other and that they should be open and trustworthy. In the story “The Scarlet Ibis” by James Hurst, the main character, Brother reveals his blended side of being a human being. In the story Brother is distinguished as being ashamed, faithful, and prideful through his actions and his expression.…
Rex and Rose Mary demonstrate a lack of supervision and guidance towards their children in The Glass Castle. Negligence then affects their children’s lives and now they are scared for the future ahead. The story starts out with the hot dog incident: “...when I stood up and started stirring the hot dogs again, I felt a blaze of heat on my right side” (9). This quote verifies Jeanette's lack of parenting she receives. Nobody was there to notice she was on fire while cooking hot dogs until she started screaming and the dog started barking vigorously.…

In the short story “Safe” by Cherylene Lee reveals the narrator’s divulgence of her experience with “true danger”. During the reading, we find that she and her brother live with fearfully careful parents while, ironically, the brother dives from great heights for a living after engulfing his body in flames. He is the narrator’s first example of peril. Paragraph six especially exemplifies the naivety of our narrator, clarifies her misunderstandings of danger, and establishes her warped expectations of consequence. She finds revelation in this example and learns from her brother instead of being conditioned to fear the future.…

This quote is from Daisy Buchanan in chapter one, page 21 talking about her daughter. In the 1920’s the world only saw women for good looks and beauty not caring much about intelligence. Daisy said she hoped her daughter would be a “fool” and fit into the world. She hoped her daughter would be happy with the world’s standards on women. It’s interesting because it seems as if Daisy is not always comfortable with herself and hopes that her daughter is carefree and is happy in her ignorance.…
Dialectical Journals: A Walk in the Woods Quote #1: “Not long after I moved with my family to a small town in New Hampshire I happened upon a path that vanished into a wood on the edge of the town.” (Bryson 3) Response:…
The scene that surrounds this epigraph is the reflection of the year 2008 by Jesmyn Ward as she recounts others from her town who died young and in various ways. She paused here briefly to tell about four additional deaths before explaining how her brother’s passing away affected her. The language she uses to illustrate the theme of death is like that of a fungus, as it claims her family members and friends as its victims. In part, the definition is that fungi are spore-producing organisms that feed on organic matter. As such, racism, poverty, drug addiction, and alcoholism feed and killed (like fungus) on many people that she knew.…
If you take Edna’s statement for face value you may not think it makes sense, but in reality it makes perfect sense. The concept I grasp from Edna’s statement is that she is not opposed to losing her life for her kids; however she refused not to live her life for anyone. Edna just want her identity separated from anyone else’s. After reading the statement I correlated Edna to women who experience domestic violence. Some domestic violence victims who have financial stability, social status or a complete family unit with their abuser; therefore they choose to stay with their abuser instead of having the freedom and individuality each person deserve.…
The author says “You will only get over your fear if you face it.” To prove to the reader that you won 't get over your fears of doing something until you face them and conquer them. The author has a powerful message that states, “you can 't learn if you don 't try”. This quote really speaks to me because I have missed a lot of opportunities due to being scared, but at the same time I have had many amazing experiences and adventures because I overcame my fears. I love this part, I think everyone should use this quote as a life model.…
Loyalty is a big topic in real life and in this book. In this essay, there will be good and bad examples of loyalty shown by the greasers and from the Soc. Loyalty is very important and there are many examples in which the Soc, Cherry, and the greasers are being loyal and unloyal to one another.…
”If you look the right way, you can see the whole world is a garden.”- Frances Hodgson Burnett. This quote is all about perspective and how changing yours will help you to see things in a more positive light. This relates to Scout in the book To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee because her perspective changes throughout the story. There are many catalysts that help Scout to change her perspective, and Miss Maudie Atkinson is one of them.…

Fight For Survive American is a mixed state, classified as a result of ethnic reasons, of their skin color, immigration, and wealth gap. This is a real problem, which cannot be avoided. Even the liberation movement in the sixties and seventies had arisen in the last century; no idea has ever been substantive solution. Confrontation continued, war continues, halt the only survival rights. In the movie "Freedom Writers", the students at Wilson High School in Long beach, California, live in such a violent atmosphere.…
When I think about the meaning of the quote by Mf. Arrupe, many thoughts and questions come to my mind. Firstly, am I the one who lives for others? Or am I the “other” for whom someone should live? At the same time, what can love of self or for god being farce mean?…
