In the court case The People of the State of Colorado v. Sandra L. Jacobson, Jacobson is convicted of homicide. The homicide resulted from her truck colliding with a taxi cab while she was driving under the influence. There were two passengers in the taxi at the time of the collision and both were killed. Jacobson appealed the court’s decision on the basis that the trial court did not allow her attorneys to gauge whether or not the jury had become biased due to mid-trial publicity that included inadmissible information. The case of David McCallum who at the time of his charge was a sixteen-year-old boy was charged along with his friend Willie Stuckey who where charged for a kidnapping and murder. McCallum and Stuckey were found guilty of kidnapping and killing a young Queens’s man in 1986 and sentenced to 25 years for a crime he did not commit. He served a twenty-eight year sentence before being found not guilty and let out of prison. The main cause of the wrongful conviction was McCallum and Stuckey admitted kidnapping and killing 20-year-old Nathan Blenner and taking a joyride in his car. They quickly recanted but were convicted of murder.…
In 1997, the Texas legislature enacted a law requiring all public universities in Texas to admit all high school seniors who ranked in the top ten percent of their high school’s graduating class. The University of Texas at Austin, after finding disparities between the racial and ethnic makeup of the university's undergraduate population and the state's population, decided to modify its race-neutral admissions policy. The new policy continued to admit all in-state students who graduated in the top ten percent of their high school classes, however, for the remainder of the in-state freshman class the university would consider race as a factor for admissions into the university. On September 23rd, 2011, Teresa Lewis, a citizen of Danville, Virginia, was pronounced dead by lethal-injection at approximately 9:13 p.m. (Crawford 74). Being that 46 executions took place in 2010, Teresa Lewis’s case would seem indifferentiable to the others; however, evaluations of Lewis’s mental state incited controversy based on the morality of her case (“The Death Penalty…”). It is my opinion that the president and owner of Custom Enterprises, Loretta Smith is not behaving in a professional nor ethical manner by omitting any of the financial statements for the bank loan. She is omitting documents that she knows may affect the loan officer’s decision to approve her request.
