Mrs. Van Bliven's Disappearance

Improved Essays
Mrs. Joseph Van Bliven was fortunate: a bubble bath loving woman who enjoyed treating herself for pleasure, and perhaps staging crimes to receive money? Mysterious broken glass, a rummaged through jewelry box, and statements that do not add up with the time frame- all of these lead to an implausible excuse for Mrs. Van Bliven’s confusion as to why her necklace “disappeared”. To begin with, even the laws of science prove that if you push something, it will move in that direction. Mrs. Van Bliven did not begin to think when she broke the window of her balcony door. She broke the door from the inside of her hotel room, trying to create a crime scene that would show someone broke in. Although, the glass had fallen from the outside of the door, so that means someone broke it from the inside. The only person able to access …show more content…
That is what Mrs. Joseph Van Bliven acted like she had when she “realized” her necklace was missing. This was completely fake. Mrs. Van Bliven says she was taking a bath, then why was her bed unmade and it looked like it had been slept-in? A quick jump to her feet from her cozy bed at 3:35am, and she quickly rushed to her jewelry box. After she rummaged through all of her jewelry she found her $25,000 necklace… and a perfect setup for a crime scene that she could stage herself. Lastly, time flies when you’re having fun, but it is not logical to be in the bath for 8-9 hours. The time of clock does not match up correctly with what Mrs. Van Bliven said in the reports. She said that she was in the bath starting at 7 o’clock pm. The time of the clock after the necklace was stolen was 3:35pm. That proves that Mrs. Van Bliven would have had to be in the bath for 8-9 hours. It was dark out when the necklace was “stolen”. Although, nobody would break into Mrs. Van Bliven’s room while she was sleeping and break glass. That would immediately wake you

(C.R. 12, Or. ¶ 14). Even if Detective Gillette would have not known right away that the object underneath the blanket was the candelabra, Detective Friggis’ touch of the irregular protrusions, with twisted branches and thorns, would have sufficed to identify the covered candelabra, since he was at the dining room when the touch happened and the touch of the unique protrusions of the mesquite candelabra made it immediately apparent to officer Friggis. (C.R. 12, Or. ¶ 14). Finally, the officers rightfully decided that obtaining the stolen candelabra was a “major gain in effective law enforcement” since they had not found any other stolen art pieces and the candelabra is a clue to find the rest of the art stolen valued at $100, 000.…
