Mrs. Truesdale: A Short Story

Caroline and I gazed up from her iphone at each other in shock. Our mouths agape, our eyes wide, and our heads shaking slowly in disbelief. Slowly proceeding into the school, I leaned into her and asked how we should react, but she only responded saying she did not know. Standing silently and stock- still for the better part of five minutes, it was impossible for us to comprehend why she had taken the picture. Eventually, snapping out of the daze, I recommended that we tell Mrs. Truesdale, our colorguard sponsor, because she could handle the situation better than me and Caroline. Caroline simply nodded and followed along. Normally, we would script out what to report to Mrs. Truesdale, but given the circumstances, we knew we needed to act rapidly in order to minimize the spread of her picture and the rumors concerning it, so we did not get the chance to plan ahead. Mrs. Truesdale was answering two students’ questions when we arrived in her room, so we sat silently in the back until they exited. Mrs. Truesdale’s face fell as I shut her door and silence fell over her room. We solemnly explained to her that one member on our team posted a nude picture …show more content…
She bombarded us with requests not to tell anyone about the photograph and claims she would handle it. At that point, though, it was too late. Caroline and I started worry she would call us out for telling Mrs. Truesdale and confront us about it, but we still believed that we did the right thing by telling someone. Our friend continued to harass us, begging us not to talk about it because it was her problem. Her incessant barrage influenced us and caused us to believe that the situation would be better if we had just left it alone and pretended to have never seen the picture it wasn’t our responsibility. So we felt terrible when we found out she was in the office receiving her punishment, when she came out crying, and when she didn’t show up to practice that

Jerry Sandusky was considered an excellent citizen to the community during his tenure as an assistant coach at Penn State. He assisted under head coach Joe Paterno and founded a charitable organization that helped disadvantaged youth; unfortunately, he was a serial child rapist (Crandall, Parnell, & Spillan, 2013). The general public wished someone had known of his actions, when in fact, there were people at the University how did and they performed internal investigations. Reviewing notes and emails of the high ranking officials at Penn State University reveal the actions were discussed with various groups, but not the board of trustees (Crandall, et al, pg. 19, 2013). The lack of recurrence is what led to criticism and the scandal to follow.…

At the end of a gym class, my classmate named Justin was about to face the worst possible punishment: he would lose his entire sticker chart and have no free time for a week. This was because our PE teacher was going to report him to Mrs. Hadyk. The problem in my mind was that I hadn’t seen him do a single thing wrong during that class. Now, he and I had barely shared a single social exchange outside required partner work, and he was known to misbehave on a regular basis, but this time I just felt awful for him because he hadn’t done anything to deserve these consequences. It was milling in my mind until we got back to our classroom, and when everyone was back in the classroom, I asked Mrs. Hadyk if I could talk to her in the hallway alone.…

C1. In this case, though no particular motives are given for the anonymous students to be bullying Larry, there are a few possible reasons why they could be doing so. The students perhaps have a grudge against Larry or dislike him and want to insult him for whatever reason by leaving his email and posting false statements and even cartoons about him (though I think insulting someone with the name of a group of people who have a different sexual orientation isn't very clever). Now as for forwarding the email with the link to the site to other friends, perhaps I wanted to hear their opinions on the site and (hopefully not, as it would make me a terrible person) try to get my friends in trouble (on second thought, no real friend would do that!).…
