Needs, wants, challenges and successes vary from family to family. According to Moore & Assay (2018), “there is a common hierarchy of needs that individuals climb on the path to life satisfaction.” (p.71). Mrs. Tau’s is not different. When Mrs. Tau moves to Baltimore City, she will need a lot of assistance as she starts her life in the City with increased responsibilities. Therefore, this paper will be looking at her needs, wants and challenges, as well as successes that she will be overcoming as a grandmother and the primary custodial parent of three young children in Baltimore city. Just as individuals identify specific needs to their own desires, the needs of families vary from family to family” (p. 73). For Mrs. Tau to prosper in Baltimore City, her needs will increase as she will be facing new challenges and that might cause stress. According to Williams (2011), “the demands of parenting again can cause stress due to the nature and obligations that come with being a caregiver” (p. 951). And so, for her 13-year-old, who needs a middle school close to home or at least a school that can accommodate her with transportation, Mrs. Tau will have to move to a neighborhood that has a middle school around. Her 13-year-old also needs an after-school program, entertainment and a neighborhood that is kids friendly. Whereas her 9-year-old grandchild, needs to be closer to an elementary school that is safe and kid friendly, so that she can ride her bike, as well as join a sports team. Lastly, for her 7-year-old grandchild whose needs are more complex, Mrs. Tau needs reasuarrance that where she is moving will have a special needs program/school, a hospital nearby for medication, a park that he can play on and house big enough for the 7-year-old to have his own room. While Mrs. Tau is taking care of her grandchildren, she also needs to take care of herself. She needs medication, insurance, a new car, and to be healthy for as long as her grandchildren need
