It is a great pleasure to recommend Rachel Sitasz for admission to the Edward Hospital Student Volunteer Program. She is one of the most empathetic, kind, and exceptional humans I have encountered in my 14 years of teaching. I teach Rachel in my 8th grade advanced ELA class. Her academics, character, innate curiosity, intrinsic motivation, ethical standards, and unwavering desire to give back, have put Rachel in a class of her own. In fact, for the first time in over 25+ years, the eighth-grade team created a brand new end-of-the-year award for our graduation awards assembly.…

Going from a rocket scientist to a high school math and engineering teacher might seem like a downgrade for most, but for Tammy Kuipers, it was one of the most fulfilling choices she has ever made. Sure the pay isn’t great and you inevitably run into a few problematic kids, but like most teachers, she gets a sort of supernatural satisfaction from helping awkward children along in their development. I had the pleasure of taking calculus and statistics from her during my high school career, and her bubbly personality and dedication to her work left a great impression on me. At 5’5” Mrs. Kuipers may not look like much of a threat.…

I was to report to the Arthurtown site and intern under the supervision of Ms. Julia. Ms. Julia had me continue to sort through employee files; looking for forms any of the teachers may have been missing or needed to update.…

Ashley, and her twin Amber, and I have known each other since before we were in kindergarten. Ashley’s personality is one that radiates with positivity, this combined with her dedicated work ethic, and empathy for the other person gave her the opportunity to hold many leadership roles during the four short years of high school. Ashley was a student council senator for all four years, vice president of the debate team for four years, president of the state champion speech team during her senior year, and a manager…

People have gathered together and thrown him a “Celebration of Life” party that over 150 people came together to celebrate. My Uncle Ricky was a truck driver so we brought in the trucks and blew the horn for him one last time. Just like in the movie Freedom Writers, how the black people came together with the Mexicans and Cambodian people and had parties.…

One day she came up with a bright idea and told her students, “You were chosen to be in my class because I am the best teacher and you are the best students.” Pierson, who came from a background of parents who were educators, knew how to inspire and inject enthusiasm, and, most importantly, try to build a relationship with her students. It was not easy; some of these kids were frequently absent and had negative attitudes, but it just took one action to make a reaction. If instead of cheating, Lewis had decided to use his capabilities to encourage his students to work on their grades, now he would be a hero instead of a cheater, and not only for his current students but also for the incoming generation as well.…

Barry was grateful for her teacher and what she did for her and the other students in the classroom. But as she was thinking she wondered what other kids went through that did not have quality teachers that went the extra mile for their students. While Barry was applauding the quality of teachers at her school Christina Fisanick implied that all teachers should be like Barry’s teachers. The quality of teachers is a big part of why some low-income students do better than others as Fisanick the editor of “Introduction to Has No Child Left Behind Been Good for Education? : At Issue”, says that every student needs a quality teacher in order to succeed in school.…
