Mrs. Mccarty Observation

One thing Mrs. McCarty does is physically involve the students. I have noticed in math that she allows the students to manipulate objects and write on the whiteboard or smartboard. This gets the students excite to participate. The most recent activity the student did in math was peas and carrots. The students needed to imagine that they scooped out some peas and carrots to eat, but their spoon only allowed seven vegetables to fit on it. The students needed to figure out different combinations of peas and carrots that would equal seven. This lesson was wanting students to learn what two whole numbers make a specific whole number. Mrs. McCarty would call students up to the board to draw the seven vegetables (combination of peas and carrots) and

Susan McClary believed, that as film and media continue the discourse on gender identities today, early-modern opera was a pioneer in the construction of gender identities to the public sphere. The construction of gender became necessary when presented portrayals of the world had to differentiate between male or female characters, as one sex could play the other. These constructions were shaped by the time and place in which the work was presented. The issue on how to represent women was controversial during Monteverdi’s time as perspectives on the female rhetoric were divided. McClary analyses Monteverdi’s L'Orfeo and believes that men had a more provocative stage presence while women had to have an innocent portrayal to remain attractive…

Mr. Fowler isn’t promoting student self-awareness. He moved Sasha’s desk which only meant that now he is responsible for redirecting, this doesn’t teach Sasha self awareness. By emailing the parents he is making them aware of the problem of missed assignments but not necessarily solving the issue. He is giving Sasha an incentive to complete her work, by allowing her to display her art work when she has completed an assignment. This gives Sasha a sense of importance but not of Self-Awareness.…

Mrs. Coty’s idea of giving the students a chance to share their notes, thoughts, and methods regarding their homework was incredible. It allowed for students to see what was expected of them. Many students skipped the section where they were asked to round and very few drew a picture as they were directed to. By displaying the work of those who did what was asked of them and getting the class to discuss why this was helpful to them allowed for those who did well to feel proud of their accomplishments and those who didn’t to see what they could improve upon for the future. If a student wasn’t very strong on the math and didn’t really understand what they were doing as they did the homework, seeing the class discuss the problems and model the correct solutions as well as the steps to obtain those solutions would strengthen their understanding.…

The students in Mrs. Bunkers 2nd period class were students that did great in school and were taking advanced level classes. The students were not being challenged in class and did not want to do some of the regular things that Mrs. Bunker had them doing like reading the textbook. Miller in, The book Whisperer said “I have learned that students hunger for more information, beyond what their social studies textbooks offers if we go the extra mile to provide it” (Miller, 2009, p. 79). Providing additional text and information could encourage a student to learn more about the subject outside of the classroom and encourage a love for learning. Many students want to know how the information connects to their lives or how the information connects to society today.…

MATHCOUNTS is a middle school math competition that I participated in and without a doubt it was one of the best experiences in my life. I made new friends, had a lot of laughs, and found a community where I belonged. When I started high school, I decided I would be a student coach for the school MATHCOUNTS team. I wanted them all to have the same positive experience I had. But there were only 10 students interested and only a handful of coaches.…

One important aspect of mathematics is interpreting the meaning of the numbers in the different operations. Van De Walle, Karp, Bay- Williams, (2013) emphasize the importance of developing meaning, interpretations, and relations to the four operations to help students integrate mathematical skills into the real world. For division, teachers should help students identify and use different meanings of remainders to help the learners understand and apply different rules. As students become knowledgeable of the different meanings that the remainder possesses they will be able to interpret the quotient in different ways. Throughout this paper, I will describe the different interpretations of the remainders and division problems using various examples.…

My fieldwork experience has made me understand that having numerous teaching strategies like Mrs. Meredith is very beneficial to the students. If one student does not grasp a concept when you are explaining it then you as a teacher can try showing it to them. Another way she lets the children learn is playing games and using student–student problem solving. As a teacher you just have to keep trying to help kids understand topics in their own learning style so…

    Peggy Mcintoh's Analysis

Peggy McIntosh wrote extensively about her personal relationship to the sociological concept of privilege and correlated her findings with her background in Women’s Studies. Most men were willing to acknowledge that women suffer under patriarchal structures, but were unwilling to acknowledge how women’s oppression put them at an advantage in society (McIntosh 1988). By theorizing gender as a system that is used to maintain order within society, we can observe the hierarchical differences within race and class and observe the disparities they present among men across social class. By denying their privilege, White men maintain their power and continue dominate subordinate groups. Gender as a system can be likened to a ladder.…

I think I have learned so much from this experience about the needs of students when they are in second grade. I saw how the students were given more independent time during this grade level then lower levels. I also noticed that they are still young enough that they need to be redirected and helped through projects. I believe by watching Mrs. Belles conduct her class in this way made me realize that I really like second grade. I think the one thing that stuck with me the most is how Mrs.Belles meets all of her students needs.…
