Decent Essays
Langston Hughes characterized Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones in "Thank you, Ma'am" as bossy. When Roger tries to steal Mrs. Jones pocket book he falls and so does the pocket book. Mrs. Jones kicks Roger on his blue jean sitter. Tells him to pick it up and drags him to her house. Second Mrs. Jones shows that she is kind- hearted. She takes Roger in and cooks him dinner and tells him to clean his face, like he is her child. Last Mrs. Jones shows that she is caring. She gives him money for new suede shoes and tells him to stay out of trouble. Mrs. Jones has positive attitudes and some negative ones too. Just because someone comes out bossy doesn't mean that's who they are. Don't judge people just because you don't know who they

When you look at this story you can see that Miss Moore is showing them how what means so much to others could mean so little some. In the story “Thank you m’am” by Langston Hughes, there are two characters with very different personalities and traits. Mrs. Jones is a static character that is constant throughout the whole story. She is a brutal woman, who takes it upon herself to discipline Rodger. A quote that expresses this is “The large woman simply turned around and kicked him right square in his blue jeaned sitter.” this shows Mrs. Jones was very upset with Rodgers base behavior, yet with the way she handled it, it seems like she takes this as an opportunity to teach him a lesson.…

First Thank you m’am by Langston Hughes, it has two characters, Mrs. Jones and Roger, the name thank you M’am came from roger. Roger and Mrs Jones met in an interesting situation, it is when he tried to steal her purse, at his surprise she grabbed him and he couldn’t steal it. Mrs Jones is described as ‘a large woman carrying a large purse’ walking alone at 11 o’clock at night, and that make us think of her character as cold and unfriendly, Roger is described as a thief of course and as he tried to take the purse he fell because it was heavy, that means he was a skinny boy and not very though, Mrs Jones kicked him and shook him, while holding him by his shirt, she asked him to get her wallet from the ground and she sounds like someone with a strong personality, she said to him ‘’ now a’int you ashamed of yourself’’ (p.93) and he replied ‘’ yes’m’’ ’’ (p.93), and then she kept interrogating him to know what were his intentions of stealing, he denied, she kept insisting, while going on with the dialogue, her actions make us readers learn more about roger’s character, ‘’ he looked fourteen or fifteen, frail and willow-wild’’ (p.94), we learn that he is weak poor and has no one to…
