Why am I here? I simply need to be healed of this injury, not taught proper manners. “Now listen, Cathy, I will heal you, but you must become a proper girl if you want to marry a proper man.” I didn’t understand this concept immediately, but in the coming weeks it began to make sense. Mrs. Linton progressively taught me things. All the while, she cared for my medical needs. In the first week, the main concern was simply healing my ankle. Mrs. Linton thoroughly cared for me in this week, but also disciplined me extensively. I was to call everyone sir or ma’am, and couldn’t use work such as “yeah.” Mrs. Linton described these words as unintelligent. On the second day there I was taught an important lesson. I called Mrs. Linton by her first name, which wasn’t the brightest idea. …show more content…
I learned quickly there were crucial mistakes I made in this situation. Why I didn’t say please will haunt me forever. “What did you just say to me?” Asked Mrs. Linton. “I would like some water.” I replied. “Do you want to try that again, or do I need to teach you a lesson.” At this point, I was fearful, but I still understand my mistake. I simply said “no” and this is when I learned an important lesson from Mrs. Linton. She made walk on my hurt ankle and serve water to everything in the house, including the inanimate objects. As if this wasn’t embarrassing enough, I was also required to refer to everything as Mr and Mrs. The pain was unbearable, but Mrs. Linton knew I would never do something like that again. This wasn’t my only crucial mistake while at Mrs. Linton, the weeks to come only got more rough and treacherous, but Mrs. Linton never gave up. She was determined to teach me everything she could. She said, “By the time your ankle is healed, you will be a functioning member of society, and no longer an arrogant, spoiled person. I will fix you and improve you as a
