In chapter 11, it comes apparent that Mrs Dubose is a nasty character. Firstly when Jem and Scout are trespassing through Mrs Dubose’s house, whenever they do so, she tells them off, as the text illustrates by “Do not contradict me”. This is what Mrs Dubose says to the children, Jem and Scout. Secondly, when Jem and Scout were intruding through her house, she would rant about their father, Atticus about his wrongdoings, saying not such nice things about him. Atticus is having a trial case with Tom Robinson, who is a black man, as the novel depicts by “Your father than a nigger and a trash he works for, this is saying that just because he is doing a case with Tom Robinson, it does not nessicarly mean that he is nigger, rather he is not.
