Woolf writes about her set of characters as they go on about their lives on a normal day, and goes within their consciousness to get more of a background to fully understand the story. With the third person sagacious narration it demonstrates the deep meaning behind dialogue, inner monologues, and indirect discourse that the characters all have within each other. It can go from Mrs. Dalloway point of view for several pages but in one paragraph it’ll switch to Smith and then back to Mrs. Dalloway or a different character. With this technique, the reader is shown a different side that could be considered a perk of having older characters.
