According to a study led by Dr. Seiler, children living in foster care had a significantly higher rate of mental health, posttraumatic stress disorder, displayed greater behavioral and emotional problems, and reported a lower health-related quality of life. Moreover, the trauma would prevent the children with social adaptation. If the Walls children are taken to foster care, most likely, they would have to separate and that mental trauma would come belong with them forever. Maureen Wall, youngest child of the Walls family, is an example. “She spent so much time with the families of her friends that she often didn’t seem like a member of our family.”…

This week in the field I had the opportunity to observe a CFTM. The CFTM consisted of a Southern Christian Service (SCS) Family Specialist, the potential foster parents and the MYPAC team (facilitator, therapist and supervisor). This meeting was geared towards revealing the diagnosis of the foster child to the potential foster parents. I have very conflicting feelings about this CFTM, because I feel like we blindsided the foster parents. SCS has been working with this family for over 4 months and there is a great deal of work that goes into licensing a foster home.…

Plaintiffs submitted a request for more than $14 million in attorneys’ fees, half of which was based on the traditional ‘lodestar’ calculation of the hours worked multiplied by standard hourly rates. The remaining half sought represented a fee enhancement…
