In the music video Mr. West uses personification and metaphors to depict his relationship with Chicago. The intro begins with] “Yeah. And you say Chi city, Chi city, Chi city”. Showing that he is speaking about his hometown Chicago, Illinois. He collaborates with Chris Martin, lead singer of Coldplay, who ties in the chorus, “I'm coming home again. Do you think about me now and then? Do you think about me now and then? Cause I'm coming home again. I'm coming home again.” The lyrics is talking about Mr. West returning to his hometown. Which is a metaphor for returning to his roots. Going back to the basics, starting over again. In the music video and in the song Mr. West used Chicago as personification acting as though she is a girl or a real person. He’s acting as though he could have a conversation with her/ Chicago. Though many of the children from his city grew up trying to make it where he has the just were not the same. He then says, “Now everybody got the game figured out all wrong, I guess you never know what you got till its gone, I guess this is why I'm here and I can’t come back home. And guess when I heard that? When I was back home.” This shows that when he left his city and became alienated from his community and that is why he is writing this from a distance, because he can not come back
