It was not meant to be however as he failed exams, was dismissed by church authorities for his actions (although noble), and even was threatened with the lunatic asylum by his own father. His work reflected still (other than for some works) a vibrant appeal that spoke of light and brighter paints than even sometimes the subject matter that they were depicting. Perhaps in his own way Mr. van Gogh was trying to find the light in even the darkest of situations in order to ignore his own growing mental troubles, troubles that eventually led himself into shooting himself and trying to commit suicide (an attempt that like many of van Gogh’s endeavors still failed to succeed immediately), he eventually died from an untreated infection from the wound inflicted during his attempt. It is however unfortunate that van Gogh decided to end his own life so soon and suddenly, because it was not until after he died that his work was recognized, that his skills were praised and even defended by peers and other artists/collectors themselves. His works in his death although not actively being pushed into the spotlight by any family, friends, or other artists for a time (as many of his biggest supporters met their own death after/before his as well as others had their own priorities) they still defied odds by slowly gaining appreciation and eventually the popularity where now a days a single painting would sell for near a hundred or more million
