Mr Thomas Case Study

Mr. Thomas is a twenty-five years old African American man. Mr. Thomas was born in Yonkers, New York but lived in the state of Georgia for twenty years. Mr. Thomas stated that he has lived in Suwannee, Georgia for fifteen years and Duluth, Georgia for five years. Mr. Thomas currently resides in Duluth, Georgia. Mr. Thomas is single and does not have any children. Mr. Thomas has been required to complete a substance abuse evaluation as a result of a possession of an illegal drug related offense. The evaluation is to determine whether Mr. Thomas is suffering from a substance related disorder and to recommend a course of treatment, if appropriate. The interview was conducted directly and entirely in English, Mr. Thomas’ native language.

II. EMPLOYMENT/EDUCATION HISTORY

Mr. Thomas reported that he is currently working at Menlo Electric in Buford, Georgia. Mr. Thomas reported that he has been working there for approximately two years as an electrician. Mr. Thomas reported that he has not been employed any where else over the last five years. He stated he has not received any additional trainings or certifications.

Thomas reported that his drug of choice was marijuana. Regarding his marijuana consumption patterns, Mr. Thomas stated that the first time he consumed marijuana at the age of seventeen. Mr. Thomas reported that he was with a friend at a concert when he consumed marijuana for the first time. Mr. Thomas reported that he continued his consumption of marijuana occasionally. Mr. Thomas reported that he consumed one “joint” per setting. Mr. Thomas reported that the last time that he consumed marijuana was September 2016. Mr. Thomas reported that he is around marijuana, but does not consume marijuana anymore. Mr. Thomas stated that he would be willing to abstain from drug for a long time. Mr. Thomas reported that he normally feels drowsy after consuming one “joint”. Mr. Thomas reported that he does not have the desire to consume marijuana
