The members of the Quickstar family included a Mum and a Dad and their five children, and they were all rather extraordinary as forest animals go. As mentioned, they could all run exceptionally fast even for jackrabbits, even for cheetahs — even for anything one can imagine, really. Let’s just say that in a race between a Quickstar on the ground and an airplane in the sky, the Quickstar would probably win. (Well, perhaps not probably, but possibly.)

(“Abstract” is a fancy way of saying that the sculptures did not look like anything you would recognize in the real world, yet were still interesting to look at if you like that sort of thing.) Royston was dashingly handsome with his chestnut-brown eyes and black-peppered gray fur, and he also had a very pleasant-sounding voice. This made him a wonderful storyteller, which was lucky for him because it was the only way he could get the acorns he needed for his artwork. The squirrels, who owned pretty much all the acorns in the forest, shared them with Royston in exchange for his telling them exciting although not very original fairytales in which the main characters were always squirrels.
