Although his sister blames their parents for him abandoning his past life and family, others say that he had different reasons for embarking on this adventure. In the article it states,”Some readers see Mr. McCandless’s rejection of materialism and his embrace of the natural world as a romantic…” His departure was a healthy way to embrace what couldn’t be handed to him and what he probably felt that he needed earn, surviving independently in nature. However, he could have been more careful instead of being as reckless as “disappearing” to those who cared about him. In the text it states, “He was always an adventuresome, pretty self-contained individual…” Wanting to venture into nature does not make McCandless an “ignorant city kid”, in fact, he wanted to be the exact opposite. Most people feel the need to be better connected to nature and taking trips like McCandless is a healthy way to have that connection. Chris McCandless had aspirations that some could relate to while others probably couldn’t
