“Daddy! Daddy! Wake up! Don’t sleep in! Come on dad! Wake up!” Mr. Malo curled up in his bed for protection as his kids, Max and Molly, jumped up and down trying to arouse their half-conscious father. “Hey dad! Guess what day it is.” Mr. Malo chose not to respond. “Christmas eve,” they both chorused at once. Mr. Malo started to fall back asleep, he only made himself more awake. Irritated because he can’t go back to sleep, Mr. Malo got dressed and went down to his kitchen. When he arrived, his kids were seated at the table with Mr. Malo’s wife, Margaret, dishing out potatoes, eggs, and bacon to their kids. He poured himself some coffee, grabbed the newspaper, and sat down at the breakfast table while eating toast with eggs. From the corner …show more content…
As Mr. Malo was dodging and jumping over household furniture trying to follow his kids, he heard a popping noise from his ankle, and fell to the ground in pain, his foot bent at an unnatural angle. He started crawling toward the front door at a painful pace, and he was almost at the door when he saw a worm five feet from his feet and getting closer every second. Mr. Malo crawled towards his front door with a renewed vigor, but he knew that he would not make it in time. The worm would sink its teeth into his ankle, and feed its hunger for blood on him as his kids stood by watching. As the worm lunged to grab Mr. Malo’s ankle, his wife appeared from nowhere and hit the worm with a chair. The worm flew away from Mr. Malo and slammed into the wall with resounding thump. Mrs. Malo helped her husband out the front door, and as soon as they were outside, she shut the door and braced the door with the chair she was holding.
