Mr. Kotz Interview Report

Improved Essays
I interviewed Mr. Kotz who teaches at Indianola Middle School. He identified his current teaching assignment as 8th grade History. His first teaching assignment was at the same school, but he was teaching 6th grade Language Arts. Mr. Kotz would describe his classroom management style as authoritative. He has a relationship with the students, but they know when he wants work to be done. Both he and the students are able to communicate and get their feelings across. The students are respectful of him.
According to Mr. Kotz, his most rewarding experience is watching the kids grow from ignorance to knowledgeable. He loves seeing his students achieve. He likes when the students are all engaged in the activity or discussion, he wants to hear their

Kotz believes the most successful way to collaborate with colleagues is to divide tasks based on each others strengths. It’s easier to share the amount of work rather than doing it all by yourself. He says that he tries to find time that works for everyone involved. He says that there should be some sort of a relationship because then you’d be more comfortable with your collaborations. He said that you have to be willing to work with other teachers, and you have to be willing to hear what they have to say.
When dealing with administration Mr. Kotz said he tries to figure out what each administrator wants, and then he gives it to them. He believes in creating relationships with administrators, too. He also said he doesn’t send students to the office often, as most administrators don’t appreciate it. He cares more about the students learning the material than how they perform it. According to him, it takes stress out of being evaluated.
Mr. Kotz says he deals with parents by telling them what they want to hear, but he doesn’t lie to them. He tells them what he is trying to achieve and he understands that the parents are the most essential part of a child's education. He does his best to communicate some key ideas, such as he is basically trying to get the students college ready. He tries to make the classroom as fair as possible, so he doesn’t usually have problems with parents. An occasional email or phone call to the parents praising the children wouldn’t hurt

A significant opportunity in my life that has had a major impact on me is an organization called Kids Are Scientists Too. KAST is a student-run non-profit corporation that aims to inspire young scholars to be interested in science and learning through fun, interactive science experiments led by passionate teachers. I was one of those passionate teachers. When I first heard of KAST, I immediately knew that I could contribute to the organization. I applied to become the lead at an elementary school, and after I was deemed fit for the role, I was chosen as the lead of a local elementary school.…

Competency Statements IV I believe that is essential to establish trust and respect, as well as keeping open communications with the parents/guardians of the children in your care at all times. I do this by welcoming and talking with the parents each and every single day at drop off and pick up. In the morning, it is the perfect opportunity to ask the parents how their morning is going and how their child slept over the night; as well as trying to accurately read the parent or child to Fsee if there is anything new I should be informed about.…

For this field expert interview, I interviewed one of the first grade teachers, Mrs. Heckman, at the school where I work. I decided to conduct my interview on Mrs. Heckman for this particular assignment because last year I worked in her classroom during an undergrad course and I really liked her classroom management style. I believe that she is fulfills the expert aspect for this paper because like with most classes, she has a very diverse classroom when it comes to behaviors, yet it is clearly apparent that her class is more managed when comparing other classrooms. Mrs. Heckman has 38 years of teaching experience where she has taught third grade for eight years; kindergarten for ten years; and first grade for twenty years. The following…

“Every year, over 1.2 million students drop out of high school in the United States alone. That’s a student every 26 seconds, or 7,000 students a year (DoSomething. Three factors that are a huge reason why students dropout are, difficulties in brain-based learning, dysfunctional home life, and exposure to stress or trauma.…

Over the course of my seven years teaching high school social studies, I have had the opportunity to learn about the evolving roles and responsibilities of a school administrator from three amazing principals. Henry Kluttz, Kelly Withers, and Angelo DelliSanti have been excellent models for anyone aspiring to be an administrator. Having recently started my own journey towards this leadership role, my knowledge of what makes a great principal has grown exponentially. Having the opportunity to interview a pair of veteran elementary school principals through this assignment has been an eye-opening experience. Having spent the entirety of my teaching career at the high school level has left me with a limited understanding of how an elementary school functions.…

While I have a great deal of experience managing a large group of children, I have not had the opportunity to have my own class to develop my own sense of classroom management. I feel confident in my ability to control a class full of students, but I look forward to the opportunity to organize my own classroom and set classroom expectations. Since I have not had my own classroom, I feel there are many little things that happen in a classroom that I have not gotten to practice. There are procedures developed for everything students do in the classroom. I want to see my own growth in classroom management because classroom management can make or break a classroom.…

Over the past eight weeks, I have learned the work that one put in to become, not just a great history teacher, an effective educator. I certainly have the passion, enthusiasm, and knowledge from previous work experiences. Teachers I have worked with have been warm, accessible, and enthusiastic to their students and seem to do whatever it takes to help, like stay after school or just make themselves available to the students and parents who need them. I never realized the amount of work teachers must do to before hand, like having lesson plans that give students a clear idea of what they will be learning, and the importance organization a teacher must have to be an effective classroom leader. Nowadays, “students report that their history teachers…

Narrowing down your life’s passion into a concise essay explaining why it is you do what you do is a daunting task. It is very difficult to pour everything I feel about teaching into two short pages, but I will try to give a glimpse into what drives me forward daily. Everything I do in teaching boils down to just one belief which is, the kids are what matters most. They are the reason I get out of bed every day, the reason I fall asleep thinking of every possible way I can teach each new concept, the reason I volunteer to stay after school tutoring, and the reason my phone calls home always end with I just have to do one more thing.…
