Kate started to feel her head pound because the adrenaline shooting through her body started to fizzle out and she hadn’t slept well in days. Kate, Mr. Jacks, and his bulldog needed to get going. All Kate could see was the enormous forest in the distance, a vast span of lush green trees, and she could barely make out the force field. Kate could smell the fresh, crisp air of the forest. She felt quite dizzy and her vision was blurry so she lay down next to a huge oak tree. She saw Mr. Jacks and his bulldog peering down at her. “What happened?” Kate inquired. “You passed out, it is probably the effect of dehydration and sleep deprivation. Lets go find a stream to get some fresh water,” Mr. Jacks responded. He then helped her up and they began walking again. About a mile through the forest they found a small, crystal-clear stream. Kate scooped some water up in the palms of her hands. The water was cool and smooth as it rolled through her fingers. She raised her cupped hands to her

In the novel The Lord of the Flies by William Golding, Jack Merridew represents savagery, the thirst for blood and violence in order to depict the most basic state of mankind. The story begins with a group of English boys surviving on a stranded island with minimal communication to the rest of the world. The isolation brings the barbaric and undomesticated state of the human being, about through acts such as hunting, killing and fighting. In the beginning, Golding portrays Jack in the jungle, on all fours with “…sandy hair, considerably longer than it had been when they dropped in…his bare back was a mass of dark freckles and peeling sunburn” (Golding, 48).…

Case Study-Jack • Do you think that Jack’s current unwillingness to become vulnerable to others out of his fear of “being dependent on them and trapped by their love” has much to do with his mother’s unconditional love? Although we don’t have much information about Jack’s early years, his difficulty establishing intimate relationships would point to issues at the oral stage by Freud’s interpretation. I think Jack’s relationship issues stem from his relationships with both of his parents.…
