Eric House was born in Atlanta, Georgia in what was then known as Atlanta Baptist Hospital. When he was around six months old his family moved from downtown Atlanta to Marietta, Georgia

Mr. House’s father, Ken House, was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia in 1931. He grew up right down the street from Grant Park during the Great Depression. Due to the time period, he had to live in a home with his aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, and many other family members. His parents, both from Atlanta, passed when he was young so he spent most of his life in the care of his maternal grandparents. For most of Mr. House’s life his grandmother had Alzheimer’s; she became more and more forgetful as he grew older. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s when he was in elementary school, so he was not able to have frequent conversations with her. He would spend a week each summer with his grandparents, but he mainly remembers spending time with his grandfather. The home they bought Powder Springs, Georgia had a huge backyard and a massive garden because his grandfather was used to living on a farm. Mr. House’s grandfather introduced him to the dirty work of gardening such as weed-pulling, hoeing, and tilling which is why he is not a fan of gardening. Mr. House would also play catch with his grandfather as well as go peach and apple picking in his grandfather’s garden. Mr. House does not know if his great-grandfather was a preacher but he knows that many of his family members in that generation were involved with the ministry. Thanks to some Singleton family members Mr. House is able to trace back his history all the way to the early 1800’s. Mr. House has been to a revolutionary war era cemetery that contains some of his family members. He also went to a cemetery where most of his grandfather’s relatives had been buried and there was a plot for his grandparents, but his grandmother did not want to be buried in the country so they forfeited their plot and were buried in a plot in Marietta. Both of MR. House’s grandparents were one of many children, so Mr. House has second cousins but no first cousins. Many members of his grandmother’s family have moved to Virginia, so he has family
