Greenberg and Mrs. Houts are both caring, they differ in their personalities. Mr. Greenberg is outgoing and goofy. He says things during class that make students laugh, like “woof,” (Greenberg 123). He also calls on students who are no longer in class, like Lauren Rivers. Mr. Greenberg also tells silly stories that help students remember his lessons. One time he told a story about his daughter, who went to the bathroom on the floor and said, “Look at my snakes!” (Greenberg123). Mrs. Houts is more reserved than Mr. Greenberg. She does not tell as many silly stories as Mr. Greenberg does. Sometimes, Mrs. Houts helps to redirect the class back to focus when Mr. Greenberg’s stories get too silly. The balance between Mr. Greenberg’s funny comments and stories, and Mrs. Houts’s attention to the lesson plan and calm nature when they co-teach demonstrates the differences between these two teachers’ personalities.
Although Mr. Greenberg and Mrs. Houts differ in their personalities and organization, they both care about their students in English. They work together to provide a great English 10 experience for their students. Their different personalities, combined with their caring nature, result them being the best co-teaching team at Southview High

Wednesday, September 16th, 2015 I did my observation of Paul Dunbar Middle School. Some of the first things I noticed when I entered the school was how enormous the school’s population is and how the school was mostly Hispanic and African American students. James Comer once said, “No significant learning can occur without a significant relationship.” This was the situation of a teacher, Mr.Wayman and his class in the poem, “Students,” composed by Tom Wayman, and of an assistant professor, Katie and her students in an excerpt from the novel, “Crow Lake,” penned by Mary Lawson. Despite the remarking resemblance in the relationship shared by the instructors’ and their respective students there are numerous differences between the two pieces of literature because of the manner in which the teachers react when their teaching skills are challenged. In Students and in Crow Lake, both of the instructors’ fail to fathom their students; and the students’ fail to fathom their respective instructors’.…

Education in schools has long been a heated topic, especially in regards to what its purpose is. On one hand, some, such as the ACSD Committee, argue that education’s purpose is “to provide for the fullest possible development of each learner for living morally, creatively, and productively in a democratic society.” However, others identify a far more critical purpose of education, such as that of Jean Anyon. Anyon theorizes in her article “Social Class and the Hidden Curriculum of Work,” that the function of our educational systems is to uphold the structure of today’s society that keeps the working class majority oppressed and its top 1% superior to the working class through the way the curriculum is taught. As someone who has been in school…

Hempel recognizes that her feelings are changing towards teaching as she stands next to Ms. Duffy at the bulletin board. As Ms. Duffy complains about the mistakes displayed on the bulletin board, Ms. Hempel begins to notice the mistakes which she had not detected previously, “her own alertness to error had wavered over the years” (25). After years of doing the same thing repeatedly, Ms. Hempel had lost the talent to discover errors in students’ work. Also, this could be caused from not finding enjoyment in teaching anymore. If Ms. Hempel is miserable with her job and is just going through the motions of her work, then it could be easy for her to miss mistakes she would have once noticed right away.…

A 2012 study by The RAND Corporation, a leading research nonprofit, found that “teachers matter more to student achievement than any other aspect of schooling.” Teachers play the role of educating students not only academically, but also socially and emotionally. In many instances, teachers provide important role modeling for students who may not have it at home, and school itself provides stability and consistency for high needs students. Teaching is so much more than just giving pointless assignments and incredibly hard tests that make students question, “What’s the point?” It is a career which helps shape students to be the best that they can be and it takes a very special person to do that.…
