I work at a Healthcare facility so I've chosen the mission statement of the facility that I've applied at. Discuss:
Mission: To fulfill President Lincoln's promise "To care for him who shall have borne the battle, and
On a warm afternoon in November of 1863 President Lincoln took the stand and gave one of the most well-known speeches in American history. On this day Lincoln dedicated the battlefield cemetery at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. His speech came towards the end of the day after a lengthy 2 hour speech from Edward Everret, and although Lincoln’s speech was only around 2 minutes many agreed that his covered the more central idea of the event than Everett’s. One part of the speech that stuck out to people was Lincoln’s “call to arms” when he addressed the citizens of America. In his speech he boldly states “It is for us the living rather to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced.”…
Leadership is a complex phenomenon. One thing is clear: leaders are not born into leadership, and you cannot make a leader. Leaders rise to existence by circumstances. Those who show up to the occasion are leaders (Sweet, 2004). Truett Cathy, founder of Chick-fil-A poses all the qualities you look for in a visionary and ethical leader.…
In a time, where fear propagated, a book called Lord of the Flies was written. It shows characters nearly for the start of their predictament, devolve into savagery. Now the question, that needs to be asked is, whether the barbaric acts in the end of the novel are the result of the environment or the fact that those on the Island are naturally wild and uncivilized. Jean-Jocules Rousseau, a man whose writings inspired modern philosophy, believed that man was naturally good. A man whose importance to this field in which this debate is framed cannot be dismissed.…

No matter what type of work someone does, rather it is in industry, services or some other employment, there will always be leaders and followers. However, there are good and bad leaders, and there are good and bad followers. Most people, if not everyone, have encountered and can think of an example for both types of followers and leaders. The Servant by James C. Hunter provides a foundation and an understanding of true leadership. Through the lives of John Daily and five other struggling leaders on a retreat, Hunter uses Brother Simeon to explain the principles of servant leadership, which causes John and the others to reflect deeply on their character, trust, and commitment. Creating and deepening the principles described by Brother Simeon will enhance one’s leadership perspective and will prove to be beneficial for a school principal. “Leadership is the skill of influencing people to work enthusiastically toward goals identified as being for the common good” (Hunter, 2012, p 28). To influence people, you must build authority, which is done when you identify and meet the…
The concept that I found the most important in Module 5 Adaptable Leader is Followership. We read about Followership in Chapter 2: Leader Influence beginning on page 70. In the reading followership was defined as being, “one in the service of another; one that follows the opinions or teachings of another; one that imitates another.” I found this concept most important because I believe effective followership is equally as important as effective leadership. They go hand in hand.…
Leadership Kathy Dunlap Bethel University MOD 310 April 24, 2017 Kameke Payne Leadership No one theory of leadership has ever been accepted by all, but the common thought of leadership is that it is an influence process, occurs within a group, involves goals, and attainment. Some people think leaders are born with a trait that innately makes them leaders, while others theorize that it is a characteristic of an individual, but we have learned that leaders are a product of their development and life experiences. Leaders are concerned with understanding people’s beliefs and gaining their commitment. They function without focusing on the opinions of others, which allows them to think of new ideas and motivate others to develop these…
(Graen, & Uhl-Bien, 1995, p. 223). My preferred leadership style and the style shown by the results of my questionnaire show the relationship between the leader and follower; the task at hand, and the subordinate’s characteristics, is critical in being an effective…
Before I started my paper I decided to figure out what does "leadership mentor" mean? For me mentor is a powerful person who can affect you without special efforts. Also, very popular determination of mentor is "wise advisor", so this person can give advices to less experienced people and usually these people are younger than a mentor. Moreover, mentor is very similar to leader, so this person for sure should know how to build good relationships between totally different persons.…
A great leader is a greater follower. Leaders communicate company goals and let their words fruition into something great. Franklin D. Roosevelt once said, “A good leader can’t get too far ahead of his/her followers.” Followers play an active, vital role in the success of any group, organization, or society (Hackman, 2013, p. 22). A leader must first lead and communicate to his group and follow closely afterwards.…
