Entry 10 : The last quotation Mr. Frank reads from Anne’s diary is “In spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart.” This tell us that Anne’s character is kind, forgiving, and optimistic. Even if people do bad things at times, Anne still thinks that they a really good person at heart. She tries to see the good in things even if there isn’t much hope. I personally do agree with this quotation. People may do some bad things but afterwards they will feel guilty because they are good at heart. Charlie went from being “retarded” from the beginning to some kind of genius throughout most of the book. The change wasn't instant, it took a little bit of time but the change was drastic. On page 1 Charlie couldn’t spell progress, then a while after the surgery, on around page 50, he spelled every single word correctly. Charlie developed emotions he's never felt before, he never had any drive towards women in a loving way, he also didn’t feel much anger or hate towards anyone. Scarlet Letter Journal Analysis Journal #2: In the novel The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne, the scarlet letter negatively affects Hester because it excludes her from society, labels her as the embodiment of sin in the town, and grants her a lot of disrespect among the people. Hester lived in a cottage that was far away from the whole town and completely surrounded by woods, which already made her feel separate from the community. Not only that, but every time she went to the busy Boston area, her contact with society made her feel “banished, and as much alone as if she inhabited another sphere” (Hawthorne 78). Hester is obviously suffering from isolation already, due to her sin and the scarlet letter setting her apart from everyone…
