Mrs. Bennet is the wife of Mr. Bennet, and mother to Elizabeth, Jane, Mary, Catherine, and Lydia. Mrs. Bennet knows the rules of society and forces her daughters to look for wealthy husbands. Upon looking for a man to marry one of her daughters, Mr. Bingley is a young man of large fortune who is from the North of England. Bingley has a large fortune and makes about four or five thousand a year. Upon hearing the arrival of Mr. Bingley, Mrs. Bennet tells Mr. Bennet to go and meet Mr. Bingley. During the 18th Britain period, everyone had their own view on marriage. This was “It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife” (Austen 3). This quote demonstrates Mrs. Bennet realizing Mr. Bingley’s arrival as an opportunity for one of her daughters to marry him. …show more content…
