Gentlemen of the jury, thank you for listening so intently to this trial. I know you care about our community, and that you will bring justice to the end of this sad story. Mr. Baumer is innocent. Recently Slade have passed away found frozen by the Deep Creek. That very day Slade was hauling a load to Mr.Baumer. In the load was a barrel full of wood alcohol Mr. Baumer is being accused of killing Slade with the wood alcohol. But Mr. Baumer, the nicest guy around, is innocent.

First of all, we aren’t even for sure certain Slade died because of drinking Mr. Baumer. Moore even said on page 246,”Found him there by the Deep Creek crossin’, doubled up in the snow an’ his fire out.” Slade could have froze to death. If Slade did drink Mr. Baumer’s

Baumer knew Slade would steal it. But what, do you really think Mr. Baumer has to supervise Slade like a babysitter. Slade is a grown man who should know what is right and wrong. But no, he doesn’t know what’s right . He steals from Mr. Bauman and lies . On pg. 240 Mr. Baumer directly said, “That Slade he steals whisky and call it evaporation.” Mr. Baumer can’t stop Slade stealing his thing because all he does is lie. His actions have consequences. Like how stealing might have a consequence of accidentally stealing the wrong thing . It was Slade’s own mistake no one should be getting blamed for something he did wrong. The prosecutors also said Mr. Baumer knew Slade couldn't read. So what, Slade should have learned how to read himself. Mr. Baumer couldn’t force him to learn to read he hardly even listen to Mr.Baumer, like how he never paid his bills after being constantly asked to. Slade even hurt Mr. Baumer just so he won’t have to pay his bill. Al even witnessed it on 239 it says, “Not saying anything, he reached down and took Mr. Baumers nose between the knuckles of his fingers and twisted it up into his eye.” How could Mr.Baumer force Al to read after he was beaten just asking to pay what he owes. Slade should have been careful about what he stole especially when he doesn’t even know what it was. Mr. Baumer didn’t have to read words to Slade and tell him what everything was. He wasn’t his teacher or his parent. Slade chose not to learn he could

Throughout Ron Rash’s novel Serena, Pemberton is a very predominant character. In the novel he possesses many defining qualities- including a lack of remorse, greed, and his love for Serena. Pemberton kills a couple of people throughout the novel and shows little to no emotions before, during, or after committing the heinous crimes. For example, he kills his long time friend and the father of his previous lover right in front of her eyes. “He grabbed Harmon’s shoulder with his free hand for leverage and quickly opened a thin smile across the man's stomach” (9).…
