One of my first experiences of being able to interact with patients on my own was during my junior residency at a private hospital in India. While I was excited about being able to use my knowledge, I soon realized that the scope of operations and demands made on medical professionals in India is unique. This is largely due to the fact that though we are one of the fastest growing economies in the world, we do not spend enough on educating people on simple health care basics. Whereas on one hand we have people suffering from malnutrition, there are a large number of cases suffering from obesity, diabetes and heart diseases. I have since realized

(Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) with first class grades, I have devoted better part of five and half years of academic life to accumulating knowledge and exposure through various co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. I decided to apply for the social work degree because after the past nine years I have encountered a lot of different experiences, problems and achievements. Through my adolescence years I faced many obstacles such as: my cousin going into care and witnessing alcohol and drug misuse. After these ordeals I realised from that point that I wanted to be the one to help young people overcome problems. I want to strive to be a better person, so I could make a change in a young persons life and know when I go home on a night, that I made a difference and that's why I want to pursue my career as a social worker.…

I have selected the University Of Miami Miller School Of Medicine for my medical education due to the attainment of confidence; confidence not in the conventional sense, but, in many other respects. Firstly, something that dwindles in the back of my mind with many unfamiliar schools I apply too is the education. Will the education provide me with the necessary tools and resources to be a competent physician? This question has no merit when I considered University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. First hand experiences are unreplaceable when conducting any type research.…

With a mission devoted to providing an unparalleled medical education, focused upon the improvement of community health, service to underserved populations, and promotion of diversity, I believe Morehouse School of Medicine can provide me with a rich medical experience that will lend itself well to my development as a medical student and aspiring physician. An emphasis on serving underserved groups, such as minorities, and addressing current health disparities were my primary motivations for applying to Morehouse School of Medicine. Following residency, I hope to practice medicine in a community limited in terms of affordability, accessibility, and availability of healthcare options. In such a community, I can utilize my medical education for the purpose of addressing the health concerns and disparities affecting those in society who are often ignored and suffer in health as a result.…

Today in day, our country argues that our population is facing a really bad health crisis. The main reason why people might argue that our country is facing a health crisis is because of the rising rates of obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and high blood pressure. For example, food activist Michael Pollan argues that our country should stop relying on processed foods and should rely more on fresh organic foods. Michael Pollan also argues, “People eating a Western diet are prone to chronic diseases that seldom strike people eating more traditional diets.” In this case, I would agree with author Michael Pollan because some of the population in our country suffer from heart diseases, diabetes, and obesity.…

The obesity epidemic is a result of poor diet and a lack of physical exercise, as argued by Lutz, Mazur and Litch (2014). Age UK (2017) discovered that there is an estimate of three million malnourished individuals within the United Kingdom, with over one million of these individuals being over age sixty-five as of 2016. The Royal College of Nursing (2017) show that signs of malnutrition can include poor levels of concentration as well as respiratory problems and an increased risk of infection. Obesity is a result of the increased intake of energy and a decreased level of exercise, stated by Waugh and Grant (2014). Malnutrition results from an unbalanced intake of nutrients, claimed by Knudsen (2012).…

I started the social work program at Oakland University in 2013 at that time my goal was to obtain my BSW with a minor in child welfare. My other goal was to work for the D.H.H.S in child protection services. I never thought about going further in my education mostly because I am a much older student and the amount of debt already accumulated seems slightly overwhelming. The other reason is my age itself, or at least it was. When starting out I let my age become a negative and always felt somewhat out of place.…

I was first inspired to look into Social Work as a career when I began learning about Family in AS Sociology as it was intriguing to learn about the factors that influence children and their development as well as their socialisation into wider society via the education system. I first met a social worker when my parents divorced over ten years ago and feel that her intervention and advice made a positive impact on me and my siblings when the transition from being raised by two parents to one became difficult to cope with. This led me to the conclusion that the role of social workers is important as they ensure vulnerable people in society, who may find themselves in an instable situation or phase of their life, regain equilibrium and are offered the support that they require to do so. During my time working as a cashier and crew member at Burger King, Thorpe Park…
