Music’s Top Dog Most musicians learn how to write letters before music symbols. Mozart, on the other hand, had it the other way around. He had an early start in composition and later became one of the greatest composers in the world of classical music. Throughout the “Leaving a Legacy” unit, students chose to research the legacy of a movement or a person. Mozart’s contributions embodied the ideal image of a long-lasting legacy. He composed from his early years until his last breath and his compositions are still listened to today. Mozart surpassed what he was taught, making his name one of the most unforgettable of composers.

One of his widely known pieces is Requiem Mass in D minor. His works were considered the high point in symphonies, operas, and chamber music (“Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart”). According to Patrick Castillo, Mozart was known for his piano concertos and many people labeled him as the finest piano player in Vienna. His playing abilities on the piano was superior because he had to play it often due to composing, conducting, and organizing operas. Although he was skilled on the piano, he enjoyed the violin more because it challenged him (Johnson 29). Beethoven was impressed by Mozart’s skill on the violin (Johnson 32). He was able to excel in his knowledge of music because he was naturally a quick learner, but also because of his journeys with his father. Through the journeys to Italian places, Mozart gained experience and growth in music. He met many composers and listened to new music which influence him to continue to move forward with his career (Glover 34). He himself became a chamber composer in 1787. The positions he got appointed to in his lifetime also led him to many accomplishments. He was appointed the assistant concertmaster by an archbishop.
