Mozart’s Unfinished Requiem
“As death, when we come to consider it closely, is the true goal of our existence” (Mozart n.p.). Wolfgang Amadeus was born on January 27th, 1756 to Leopold and Anna Maria Mozart. Mozart was the last child born to Leopold and Anna. He had two older brothers, and four older sisters. Only one of his siblings was still alive when Wolfgang was born. His brothers were all named Johann, and his sisters were all named Maria. All of his siblings, except Maria Anna Mozart, died within a year of birth. Mozart never attended a proper school. It has been over 200 years since his untimely death in 1791, yet there is still controversy over what killed this musical prodigy (Melissa-What Killed Mozart? n.p.) Medical investigators are unable to decipher what really killed Mozart, because autopsies were unavailable at the time of his death, and the location of his remains is unknown. The only information we have about the cause of his death is what his close friends and family witnessed in his last days (Melissa-What Killed Mozart? n.p.). It is known that Mozart became sick on November 22, 1791, and died on December 5 of that same year. According to his sister in law, Mozart had a high fever, and was unconscious for most of his illness. His son, Karl, said that Mozart became very swollen, to the point where he could not even make small movements or roll over. (Amadeus-movie) Some possible reasons for his death include a Vitamin D deficiency, strep, uremia, and trichinosis. Mozart had a habit of sleeping during the day, and composing through the night. This may have caused a Vitamin D deficiency. The deficiency would not have killed Mozart, but it would have made him more susceptible to infections such as strep. There was an outbreak of strep around this time, and Mozart’s symptoms are very similar to ones that this epidemic causes. He had back pain, rashes, and malaise (which when combined with kidney disease can cause severe …show more content…
He was a child prodigy who grew to become highly distinguished in the music world. The Austrian performer composed hundreds of pieces of music for various instruments, many of which are played in movie soundtracks. He died at a young age of 35, and even though he was known worldwide, no one knew what caused his death. Now, over 200 years later, scientists are coming up with possible reasons for his death. Mozart was working on a composition when he died. The Requiem in D minor was left unfinished at the time of his death. The fact that Mozart did not finish his composition is ironic because a requiem is a song or hymn of mourning composed or performed as a memorial to a dead person (Oxford Dictionary). However, one of Mozart’s students finished the piece of music after Mozart’s death (Betsy

At the dawn of the 21st century, a lock of hair, once attached to possibly the greatest composer in the history of Western Music, was sold at Sotheby’s Auction house. The lock held within its strands both the known facts of Beethoven’s life as well as clues to the mystery of his death. Beethoven’s Hair, written by Russell Martin, has two main objectives – to tell the biographical story of the great composer Ludwig Van Beethoven, and to trace the lock’s path through history from the head of the composer to the modern-day lab. Martin asks a very important question - Who was Beethoven? Although historians often answer that question by listing his accomplishments, Russell Martin digs deeper.…

It is fascinating to see this story of Mozart through the eyes of someone else. While there is a great deal of the movie that is made up and based on false rumors, it is still very interesting. Even though it was part of the story that wasn’t true, I found myself feeling really sorry for Mozart at the end of the movie. I thought it was really sad to see him when he was sick, and then to have Salieri there with him, knowing that Salieri wanted him to die so he could finally get some recognition. It seemed that Mozart did care about his opinion and that Mozart thought he was his friend when he really wasn’t.…

At the age of six Mozart was proficient in the use of numerous instruments and could draw in large audiences. When I was six, my biggest accomplishment was being the first kid in my class to finish a chapter book. Child prodigies like Mozart show their artistic or intellectual potential at a young age and are propelled into adulthood with an exceptional competency, knowing their abilities and how to use them. Unlike the Mozarts of the world, my early proficiency in reading the tales of Junie B. Jones and The Magic Treehouse has yet to get me into that same prodigy category. Growing up I was encouraged from a young age to learn as much knowledge as possible.…
