Moving To Wannakita Research Paper

Once I turned six, my parents sent me to Camp Wanakita for the first time, which was the origin of one of the most important parts of my life. Although the earliest few years, I needed some persuading to return to camp, I nonetheless believe that, if the opportunity presents itself, all children should go to Wanakita, because of the opportunities for unique friendships, the setting conducive of a connection to nature, and an environment that encourages the development of new skills. Perhaps the most important reason why all children should go to Wanakita is the formation of friendships at camp. The camp songs and traditions encourage a sense of camaraderie between campers which is vital to the creation of good friendships. This distance clears the sky of any light pollution, and allows campers to see the brilliant night sky and truly go back to nature. The most important way Wanakita can give campers the ability to go back to nature is provided by the 900 acres owned by the camp, called “the Back Nine”. “The Back Nine” allows campers to go hiking in relatively untouched wilderness. The final compelling reason why all children should go to Wanakita is that they can learn skills they wouldn’t have the opportunity to learn in the suburbs, Most importantly, children have a great opportunity to learn leadership skills though the student counsellor program. Another set of important camp skills are taught by the lifeguarding courses, where campers can earn their Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross lifeguarding certifications. Additionally, campers can learn and practice boating skills, including canoeing, kayaking, sailing, and windsurfing. In conclusion, all children should go to Wanakita because of possible friendships, an ability to become in touch with nature, and the new skills to be learned at
