Moving Away From The University: What Costs Are Affecting Study Options

Decent Essays
How does the distance you live from the University affect your study options? If you have to travel long distances, what costs are involved? If moving away from home, what will be your living arrangements and costs?
I currently live in Claremont with my parents. If I am admitted into the MBBS, I may have to reside in Burnie or Launceston for the fourth and fifth years of the course. If I were to be placed at the Launceston Clinical School I would have to seek my own accommodation and catering, meaning my living expenses would be approximately $13000 per year presuming I stayed in university accommodation. If I were to be placed at the Rural Clinical School in Burnie I may be able to stay with my grandmother and pay her board. If I am not able to stay with her, I would stay at the Rural Clinical School’s accommodation. If that were the case my living expenses would be approximately $8500 per year. I intend on catching public transport to and from the university. Based on the current concession fares for Hobart, the overall cost for bus transport for the MBBS degree would be approximately $3000 over the five years.
