I was on the verge of tears. In my mind, being told we were moving was just about the worst thing that could happen to me, but when I was told my cat couldn’t come...
“You can’t do this to me!” I cried
“This is a great experience, you’ll make so many new friends!” my parents said excitedly
If I was going to be forced to move to another country at least I could have my cat.
“I am NOT going without Hopie!” I stated point blank
After a few days of pestering, they eventually agreed, which made moving a tiny bit better. However, moving was a completely different matter. It was inevitable, I was going to Amsterdam.
And so I found myself sitting in a canal house, a few months later. After I adjusted to Amsterdam and started making more friends, less time was being spent with Hopie.
“You need to spend more time with Hope” my mom informed me

I just didn't have as much time as I did before.
“Okay” I mumbled One day I noticed how thin she had become.
“Mom?”
“Yeah?”
“Hopie needs a vet.”
My mom didn't question anything, I think we both had a feeling something was wrong. And sure enough, something was wrong. The vet smiled and said, “Don't worry, she still has 7 lives.” She seemed to be waiting for my smile in return and when it didn't come she frowned. She took the lethal bundle of AstroTurf and put it in a small baggie. Sometimes I still forget how lucky I am to be sitting next to my cat. I am so grateful that I can say my best friend is still with me, even if she only has 7 lives

It had been a constant reminder of the days when they were innocent, wide-eyed and childlike, an age in which they would look at the world with curious stares and bright smiles, a time he had missed dearly despite not wanting to remember.
