Growing up in the world is exhilarating, full of adventures, and curiosity yet it is also trying, confusing, and similar to finding the way through a labyrinth. The world tends to throw many different situations and problems at children every day in an attempt to teach and develop the children into capable adults. Why add to the complexities of adolescents through the impetuous prescription of antidepressants and other behavioral medications? It is common practice for parents to look for problems in their children and opt out for a quick fix such as medication or therapy. Adolescence is a time when children are meant to discover how to cope with the trials into adulthood; medical professionals and distressed parents are scrambling to find …show more content…
Deeply concerned about the welfare of their children, parents often seek outside sources such as their primary physicians for aid. (Behavior or Conduct) Often seeking to focus an overly hyperactive child a general physician will prescribe Adderall XR as a stimulant to help the student focus on their day to day activity as well as class. It is this quick fix mentality that can cause lasting psychological effects on children. There are many other methods to help children focus on society and the classroom. The other methods are not widely known but are still effective in helping adolescents. Lifestyle changes such as better nutrition, physical activity and more sleep can result in adolescent having more self-control and focus thought-out their daily activities. Nutrition is a major factor in childhood mental illnesses, fast food and other unhealthy popular foods can cause childhood obesity and lack of nutrition, which can seriously alter childhood mental health and lead to illnesses such as depression, anxiety and nay more problems. Physical activity is also a major contributing factor in combating childhood behavior issues and mental illness. Physical activity can release endorphins in the child’s mind, which fights depression and anxiety. (McLeod) Physical activity such as team sport can also have a positive effect on childhood mental illness. The team atmosphere can cause a sense of unity and contribution. This atmosphere has proven to be a great way to fight many different childhood illnesses and create more happiness in children’s lives. Sleep is also a major factor that contributes to childhood mental health. The lack of sleep can alter a child’s mental state, not acquiring enough sleep can severely contribute to childhood ADHD. In the same way sleeping too much can cause a child to also lose focus throughout the day and lead to other childhood
