Movie Theater Concessions

Improved Essays
When going into a movie theater they already have concessions but do you bring in your own food? Most people from the past years have been booting out the concession food and bringing their own but what do you think? People should be allowed to bring in their own food in a movie theater because food is expensive and unhealthy.

It is argued, that people should not be able to bring food into a movie theater because movie theaters can go out of business. Movies theaters make their money by concessions and if you don’t buy anything from the movie theater sooner than later there will be none. My evidence to support that is, “Without the profits from concessions, both Regal and AMC would be losing hundreds of millions of dollars each year”(Video). This quote shows that movies need the concession money if they stay in business. This is why you should buy

Food at a movie theater can be very expensive to what you can buy at a regular store. My evidence to support that is, “During the fourth quarter, AMC reported concessions revenue rose 8.8% over the prior year to $215.3 million as average spending per customer rose 13.5% to $4.46.” (Udland). (Text 3). This quote shows that food is really expensive when it comes to movie theater food. This is why you should be allowed to bring in your own food in a movie theater.

Also, people should be allowed to bring in your own food into a movie theater because the food is unhealthy. If you are on a diet, you need to eat something healthy and nothing at a movie theater is healthy. My evidence is, “For example, a small popcorn, without butter, from AMC weighs in at 225 calories and 11 grams of fat.” (Myers). (Text 1). This evidence is significant because a popcorn is so unhealthy and what if you just want to bring in some healthy snacks? This is why you should be able to bring in your own food in a movie

Would you rather pay the prices for theater snacks, or not have a theater at all? If people keep smuggling in their own food from home, theaters would be forced to shut down due to the fact that theaters wouldn’t be able to run without the profit made from the concession stand. As everyone has known that fast food has major impact American’s health, and it causes obesity in America. In fact, there was a lawsuit case of two teenagers tried to sue the fast food chain, McDonalds, to responsible for their obesity in 2002. In this case, the court discussion states that if the teenagers could prove that eating the McDonald’s food for every day for every meal is unreasonably dangerous, they would be able to state their claim. For these reasons, documentarian Morgan Spurlock created a documentary, Supersize Me, to prove that eating too much fast food is really effecting in a person 's health. In his film, Spurlock decided to go on a diet by eating only McDonald’s fast food three times a day for thirty days and without exercise.…

One reason why I think it is okay is some people may not be able to afford the cost of the food at the movies. When people go to the movies they want to buy popcorn to go along with an amazing movie, but some people may not have enough money to buy popcorn. For example, if someone only went to the movies with 10 dollars and it cost 8 dollars to get in, and they want to buy popcorn but it cost 3 dollars. They will not have enough money to buy the popcorn. Then they would just have to watch the movie with no food.…

In the documentary Super Size Me, narrated and directed by Morgan Spurlock, Mr. Spurlock sets out to see just what effect eating fast food can have on a person’s health. Numerous questions are posed during the film, so it is difficult to determine the exact thesis of the argument. After filtering through all of the information, I determined the main point of the argument to be that McDonald’s knowingly provides unhealthy food to Americans and wants us to eat as much of its food as we can, therefore making us fat. Mr. Spurlock sets out on an experiment with himself as the subject, in which he eats nothing but McDonald’s food for 30 days. Although Mr. Spurlock does present evidence that fast food is unhealthy, I am going to focus on all of the inconsistencies and fallacies in his argument.…

America is one of the remarkably overweight nations in the world. It is for the reason that individually life is speedy and the majority of people come about needing food right now, instead of taking the time to cook a meal. If fast food restaurants prevail in the high schools of our communities, before long it would essentially be contributing to the obesity issue, diminishing the health of our youth, and hurting students academically. It is no secret that America, as a nation, has a fast food problem.…

One student says “Usually we go to the student store and I'll buy a bag of Cheetos...or like chips, sometimes a Gatorade, yeah" when asked what they will do when the school lunch doesn’t fill them up enough. This is a problem that is hard to deal with, because having bags of snacks that students can munch on sort of goes back on the whole idea of “healthy lunches” and has the student spending money on top of their bought lunch just to get filled up for the rest of the day. Giving students a healthy option is ideal, but having them eat something that tastes bad and won’t even fill them up doesn’t seem right. There are some arguments that some people can make as to why healthy school lunches are extremely important and why they mustn’t change.…

“The Fast-Food Fight” Some may argue that fast-food has become the new tobacco. Over the years, we have become highly educated on the health related concerns of smoking, as well as the significant health issues associated with overeating. Fast-food consumption has caused great alarm among Americans and is a controversial issue of who is to blame as well as who should take action. Although many critics believe that fast-food consumption is an individual issue and the government should not be involved with one’s personal eating habits, I would argue that some amount of government intervention is needed. While it is understandable that people want to eat what they desire, many people have allowed the convenience and glorification of fast-food in American to take precedence over the unhealthy risks of a fast-food diet.…
