The American Sniper

Prior to watching American Sniper, I was skeptical about it, because I am usually not a big fan of war movies. After watching the film it really opened up my eyes about what the military is actually about and what goes on while I am safely sitting at home doing my homework. The 2014 film was two hours and fourteen minutes long and is a true story of Chris Kyle (played by Bradley Cooper). When Chris was a kid, he was a natural shooter with impeccable aim and had dreamed of becoming a cowboy. Once becoming a cowboy, he realized that wasn’t his dream; his true goal in life was to take the oath of serving and protecting his beloved country. Fulfilling his dream, Chris Kyle not only joined the U.S. Navy SEALS, but he also became a legend. …show more content…
The time period of the movie can be noted in the early 2000s because towards the beginning of the movie, Taya and Chris watch the Twin Towers being attacked on the news on September 11, 2001. In this scene, the audience could feel fright from the beginning due to the Taya yelling “Nooo! Chris, noooo!” Instantly, Chris ran out to the living room of their home in Texas to see what the fuss was about. Once he seeks out Taya with her face thrown into her hands, Chris turns his head to see the worry and fright the world had just encountered; a terrorist attack on the World Trade Center. Through Chris’s eyes, someone watching the film can tell he is willing to do whatever it takes to protect his beloved country. A little later into the film, Chris is on his first tour and feels the frustration that goes into saving lives. He is calmly but cautiously riding around Iraq with a couple other soldiers when he gets a phone call from his wife back in Texas exiting the doctor’s office informing him the sex of the baby they’re about to have. Chris happily discovers the sex of the baby is going to be a boy and shares with his fellow soldiers as they congratulate him. While he is excitedly talking to his wife, a close up of the Iraq sniper appears as he is ready to shoot informing the audience of suspense. A view of the car Chris and …show more content…
The movie pulls the viewer in with a love story that grows throughout the years with the suspense of the relationship’s ups and downs. Chris Kyle is a military legend and takes on life threatening events in the Iraq war. Sadly, the ending of the movie was very unfortunate, but it really made the audience feel true sympathy. The ending began cheerful in the event that Chris got to make amends and spend time with his family and help other military veterans with disabilities and minor mental problems. How unfortunate that one day later he would be shot while helping out a veteran. The director of the movie, Clint Eastwood, made a very good movie decision. Clint used live footage of Chris Kyle’s funeral to show just how much of an impact Chris Kyle really played in every life he touched. No movie is ever perfect, so I rate this movie a 9/10 and would watch it again in a heartbeat. Potential viewers should watch this movie with no question, even if the viewer is younger than recommended. This movie is entertaining for the most part because it constantly has the viewer on the edge of their seats. What it teaches the viewers about humility, strength, honor, selflessness, brotherhood, patriotism and commitment is priceless. Chris Kyle had a story that was worthwhile to share and it positively changed many lives. He can be described with various adjectives, and one

“The Sniper” is a story set in times of the Irish Civil War, depicting a Free Starter sniper who undergoes a huge change in the face of killing an enemy sniper. He is dehumanized from pain and killing others, seeing people only as targets. He is also desensitized to aspects of the war most civilians would be very afraid of, which is shown through the pain of when he gets shot in the arm--the narration only depicts it as a “deadened sensation”. However, once he finally succeeds in killing the enemy sniper, “the lust of battle of battle died in him”--meaning that he’s no longer desensitized from war. The story also states that “He became bitten by remorse”, meaning that he no longer sees the enemy sniper as a target, but rather a person; this also signifies the end of his dehumanized war state.…
