When I first heard about this movie I thought it was some weird story about a boy who wore pajamas. I was completely wrong and I am very glad I decided to watch it. It has one of the most suspenseful endings that I have ever seen in a movie. This movie is set during World War II and is seen through the eyes of an eight year old boy named Bruno. We learn about his innocence during a time where innocent people are treated like trash. In the beginning of the film we see Bruno running around playing freely with his friends. He soon finds out that he will have to leave his friends and his home to move to the countryside in Germany. His father, Ralf, is a Nazi Soldier and his new job requires him to run a prison camp. They made an arrangement that Bruno would help Shmuel find his father before he leaves. They could dig under the fence and Bruno could wear the ‘striped pajamas’ so he would fit in with the other prisoners. The day that Bruno was supposed to leave he went to go fulfill this promise. He makes it into the camp with Shmuel and they go looking for his father. You can tell how scared Bruno is. But suddenly they were all ordered to go into a chamber. All of these prisoners including Shmuel and Bruno had to take off all of their clothes and stand in a dark chamber. Bruno and Shmuel were scared but held one another’s hands. At this point Elsa realized that Bruno was missing and tells her husband. They frantically run to the camp and they both realize at the same time that Bruno was in the gas chamber. Because of Bruno’s own fear of the soldier, he let Shmuel take the heat. And that is not a heroic thing to do. Poor Shmuel got beaten and Bruno felt bad about that. To redeem himself he helps Shmuel find his father. Although he did not complete his redemption to help Shmuel locate his father who was probably killed in the gas chamber, he did something even more heroic without even knowing. He didn’t let Shmuel die by himself. They held hands and it gave them both strength. And he proved a serious point to his father. Bruno died the way his father thought a Jew should die. In a way maybe there was some redemption for the Jews. In a horrible way and without trying Bruno proved that he was just like the Jews and he died with them. He proved that they are all human and innocent. It was a major hit to Ralf and his family that their son was killed by a method in which they so easily will kill other people. It confirms the belief of redemption because it was so important for Bruno to help his friend find his father before potentially never seeing Shmuel again. He couldn’t leave without doing it. He knew he did something wrong and for someone who is of pure innocence he needed to get that back. He definitely redeemed himself by dying with his best
