Unfortunately not all movies are made with a second opinion like Maleficent to justify or give an explanation to the evil counterpart of the hero. The majority of movies are left with the antagonists being unreasonably evil and the audience rooting for the good guys. By popular demand nine out of ten movies the good guy always comes out on top. Society has instilled this idea in its movies. The good guy must always win because he does everything right and deserves it. His correct thoughts and actions justify him into being victorious even if the evil had an equally compelling argument because it is not represented in the film. If the bad guy was to win that gives people the idea that even in doing the wrong thing you can still come out on top.

People rarely ever use the term bad “girls” because films portray the antagonists almost always as men. In today’s society Feminism is becoming more common and accepted. Women are able to do anything that men can. Although this perception is becoming more common it has not yet translated into films. Films still use men as a powerful evil force that use violence and cleverness to take over the world. This idea demonstrates that women are not capable of such complicated plans and do not have the proper skill set to accomplish such a complex goal. Men are targeted as the antagonist, which poorly represents men. This image can have a very negative affect because men feel that they must live up to this standard because that is what is expected. Men who fail to do so may feel bad and insecure. This also relates to how women see men. This explains why often time’s women are taught to steer clear of men. Men are shown as stronger, faster, and smarter they are capable of things women are not. A clear example of this misrepresentation would be in The Hunger Games: Mocking Jay, Guardians of the Galaxy, American Sniper, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, The Hobbit, Transformers, Maleficent, and X- Men which are in the top ten movies of 2014. Their popularity may be due to the fact that people are so drawn to these types of movies because they share common beliefs that films portray. Before even watching the movie people can guess the antagonist will be a man, its more believable. These movies all share the commonalities that the antagonists are men who want to make the lives of the protagonist very difficult as well as gain power and control.
